This is why I’m opposed to giving Government jobs to the victims of the Karur incident. There are lakhs of graduates who’ve worked hard, studied hard, waiting in literal queues for employment. Their families may also be pinning their hopes and dreams on them. Compassionate appointments to government jobs should be made only in certain cases like (i) government servant’s death in harness, (ii) someone passing away in service of the nation or a heroic act, or (iii) in a large scale natural disaster. Effectively, compassionate appointments bypass qualified candidates who are on waiting lists or ready to take competitive exams. It shouldn’t be given in cases like Karur. At the end of the day, it occurred in a political rally due to negligence of the organisers. Instead, the affected families should be given monetary assistance. The most important thing is to render justice by punishing the culprits.
