This evening in Male’, @MDPSecretariat Deputy Chairperson Ibrahim Waheed and Upper North Province President Akram Kamaaluddin recorded video of my wife and our 10-year-old daughter on the street. The footage was later posted via the anonymous account. These self-proclaimed advocates for democracy, women’s rights, and children’s rights stoop to such undignified tactics. This is the cheap, divisive politics the MDP has long represented.

So the @PensionOffice public statement claimed they played "middleman" for money printing based on two primary factors, one being the advice they received from their "consultants" (ކޮންސަލްޓެންޓުގެ ލަފައާއި އެއްގޮތަށް). So I asked them: 1. List of consultants 3. Copy of their official advice Their reply? 1. It's just ONE individual: António Henrique da Silva Cruz. 3. "We actually haven't asked his recommendation for this particular transaction." So many issues here: 1. "Consultants" (plural) made it sound like multiple experts backed this. In reality? Just one person. Grammatical mistake? Attempt to deceive public? 2. Their statement implied this consultant recommended the transaction( 1/2 primary factor) but consultant(s) wasn't even asked. Another mistake or attempt to deceive? 3. This was the FIRST time Pension Office engaged in such a transaction, a massive decision. Yet they never sought advice of consultant(s)? Why even have a consultant(s) if you don't consult them on one of the biggest calls the office has faced, one over which the CEO, CFO, Chair and board-members have resigned?

Dear Minister Your immaturity is beyond ridiculous and to have you as our home minister is an affront to the very idea of policing. If you have a valid basis agaisnt these individuals then by all means take legal action agaisnt them. As far as the status quo you ARE the Law (except when the almighty President orders otherwise). As the Home Minister you are expected to have some restraint and maturity. You cannot just come out on social media publishing videos of citizens that you are purportedly accusing. Perhaps you dont have the confidence in your Ministry and Polcie to investigate this matter properly. We definitely dont - especially after the illegal access, misuse of and greatest theft by you of the private data of Maldivan citizens.

Dear Mr. Fayyaz Ismail, I would like to clarify the matter for you. The individuals you hail as “Democratic Champion” leaders were, in fact, recording my wife and young daughter as they walked on the public street directly in front of our family home — an area clearly covered by our own private CCTV camera. I published the footage from our home security system, which is entirely private and in no way involves state resources. Your apparent unfamiliarity with the actual circumstances, combined with your defense of such undemocratic and unacceptable behavior by members of your party, unfortunately says a great deal about the values being upheld and promoted within it.

I am shocked by the conduct of a minister responsible for internal security who appears oblivious to the abuse of taxpayers’ money. The sense of entitlement among @MMuizzu Cabinet ministers is astonishing. See how swiftly justice is demanded when it involves his own family, compared with the stalled investigations into the brutal murders of Zakiyya and Vifaaq. Those who call for fairness must come with clean hands. You have repeatedly shown disregard for the rule of law by using taxpayers’ money for personal benefit, and by being caught using citizens’ personal data from ID cards for party membership and political gain at @pnc_secretariat. These are crimes you conveniently ignore.

The Home Minister’s use of state resources to spy on citizens —and declaring this publicly— without even understanding the gravity of the abuse and corruption, is beyond belief. Our nation’s current trajectory is one that causes serious fear. We do not want a "Big brother" state, where every camera and piece of data is used to control the public and steal the vote. Everyone who values justice, personal freedom and concern for the future of this nation must urgently come together despite differences, those of a political ilk and those not, those who are disillusioned and those who are hopeful, must now combat this government and stop the decay which has come to define this regime, with all possible haste. We MUST say NO to this insane regime.

I urge @Akramkdeen and @ibreys to consider filing a defamation case in Civil Court regarding the publication of your photos online and the accusations made against you for something you did not do. From the video uploaded by Oriyaan Appathurey, it’s evident that the two of you were simply taking a selfie together. He uploaded pictures of you two from official gov verified account. He’s clearly using his authority to put a target on your backs.
