Akron Fire Department

Akron Fire crews were dispatched to a structure fire in the 1300 Block of Marcy Ave. earlier this afternoon. Crews arrived on scene and found smoke and flames coming from the rear of the vacant structure. The fire was extinguished with no reported injuries at the scene.

The Akron Fire Department is hosting a Grand Open House this Saturday and Sunday from 12pm to 4pm to showcase the new Fire Station #12. You're invited to come out and enjoy a tour of the facilities while snacking on ice cream and other refreshments. Bring the whole family!

A huge thank you to the students and faculty at Our Lady of the Elms School for hosting the Touch-A-Truck event yesterday. The students were fabulous and engaging, asking great questions. A huge success!

The SafetyTown School for this week is Barber CLC. The students all had a blast as usual!! Thanks to the teachers and staff for allowing us to spend part of our day with you. Can't wait to see which school is up next week!! Stay tuned!

The Akron Fire Department participated in the first Trunk-Or-Treat event of the season organized by the Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority, along with other organizations such as METRO, Children's Hospital, and the Akron Police Department.

Who takes time out in the middle of a marathon to pose for a pic? Dr. Melanie Sherman-Green does! She made a quick pit stop at the point where her husband, Lt. Randall Green, was stationed on EMS standby. Awesome family support of the Akron Marathon.

Members got an early start to Saturday's Akron Marathon, providing EMS standby and crowd control assistance along with APD at various locations along the race route. Our presence created a safe and secure atmosphere that allowed participants and spectators to enjoy this event.

Kudos to the AFD members who participated in the Peer Support training today, part of the ongoing effort of administration to provide the needed emotional and psychological support to the firefighters and paramedics who tirelessly serve our community under stressful conditions.

This week, the East side fire companies toured the Haunted Schoolhouse and Laboratory on Triplett Blvd to ensure that all visitors have a fun and safe experience this Halloween season. AFD frequently tours businesses to preplan for incidents.
