@os7borne Another proxy could be looking at the growth in number of stores like Tanishq in those cities

was looking for a proxy indicator of growing affluence in cities. Thought a car purchase would be a good one that data is fascinating itself, but went a little further, and was surprised that BOM and DEL have similar % of cars to population. shocked that BLR is 16% unverified

The first in a series of bite-sized updates on @NIIFIndia’s Monthly Economic Report on India. Dare I say, watch this space for more updates! Thanks @arpitbarman1, the force behind these reports, and to Swati N, Viraj for making this happen.

Delhi finally has a good coffee shop that’s catching up to cafés in other cities.

The @NIIFIndia MERI is now leaner and richer in data. Read the July 2025 issue (released before the August tariff announcements) for a focus on trade: see how Indian exporters front-loaded electronics and agri-commodities to the US ahead of the reciprocal tariffs

Read our July edition of NIIF Monthly Economic Report on India that’s now in a sharper format highlighting key economic shifts through our GRIX (growth, rates, inflation, forex) framework, while comprehensive data moves to detailed annexures for deeper dives. #India #Trade

@JubbaOnJeans If you compare savings rate over a period of time, you’ll see china’s savings rate dropped from about 50% in 2010 to 44% now. Though still one of the highest rates globally

This is confusing. My assumption was that China discouraged household savings. Did that flip in the last decade? Massive #TIL moment

(like everyone else) I am reading the Indus Valley report this morning and this data point always strikes me. 45% of our labour force produces 15% of our GDP. Making agriculture politically untouchable has real-world consequences.

And while I no longer work at the Gokhale Institute, old habits die hard - please do spare the time for a masterclass, and tell the students how you went about doing this, @jayatisharmaa and @DeoSahil! 😀

@pranaykotas @acorn @ashish2727 Looks like it was a fun conversation! Can we have both of them do such a thing in Delhi? As an ex-student of theirs, I’m sure it’ll be awesome

@FURLENCO And I still haven’t heard from anyone! The pick up for the return of my order was scheduled twice and was swiftly updated each time without any details. Reaching out to the customer care is impossible and clearly tweeting does not help either.

@FURLENCO Have been trying to cancel my subscription for the last one week and no one has sent me a confirmation of the request nor contacted me! This is a pathetic service which offers no option to customers to exit. Never using this again!
