Today, we're announcing something very simple: Sign up with Plaid. That “simple” thing increases end-to-end sign up rates by 10 - 25%, and we're calling it Plaid Layer. Here’s how we give you the Internet’s fastest, highest converting financial onboarding experience 🧵

They’re one of the providers we’re using on the SNA side, but don’t leverage them for risk signals today. We have extensively tried multiple SNA providers. None of them are ready for broader business use (imo) without a ton of work to smooth over the edges (which we have done with lots of trial and error)

Layer from Plaid (announced today) is pretty awesome! provides nearly "Instant onboarding" for users already connect to plaid's network (1/3 of all consumers). keys off of your phone number and pre-populates your KYC info. Similar to how Shopify Pay works for checkout but for onboarding for a new financial account. Plaid claims increases end-to-end sign up rates by 10 - 25%, which is a huge lift for their customers. Anyone here using it yet?

@andrewe @tpurves @rexsalisbury One more thing to add is later this year we plan to allow users to have “Passkey-only” mode, which will remove all other login methods. If you lose your passkey, you have to start fresh

@tpurves @rexsalisbury Different unit economics for wallets like Link and Shop but I’d expect Stripe and Shopify to support SNA as it expands and Twilio can bring costs down. (assuming it’s Twilio, @alain)

Yeah - of course all of this was one of the primary design goals. There’s a ton happening behind the scenes with respect to trusted device IDs, historical account linking locations, carrier-level swap and port data, attribute velocities, SNA (which you called out, that can’t be phished), Passkeys etc that we check in the background. This isn’t your garden variety authentication :)

Some of my favorite key features: 🔑 Next-level user authentication, powered by direct-to-carrier SIM authentication, our ML models for thwarting bad actors, Passkeys for seamless login, and our network of trusted devices 📊 You can make sure that only users who have *exactly the data you need* on file go through this experience. Everyone else uses your existing signup flow. 🎉 We only charge you when users successfully share their information and link an account with you. Our incentives are 100% aligned with yours. 🧠 We called it Layer because it's a layer that sits on top of your sign up flow that only appears when it benefits you and your users It's available starting today. Check it out: plaid.com/blog/introduci…

1. 📱 You send us your user's phone number when they're signing up for your service. From that, Plaid tells you whether that user is in the Plaid network 2. ⚡ In-network users are given the choice to sign up instantly with Plaid. Layer authenticates the user, and then presents them everything from their name and date of birth to their SSN and their most relevant previously linked bank account 3. 🌐 Your user hits "Share" and instantly permissions their full identity so you can KYC them. This also links a bank account in one tap (for supported institutions) This is a *massive* improvement in user onboarding. It's an 87% reduction in end to end financial onboarding time - KYC to account linking. And it works, today, for tens of millions of users who are already in our network.

Junior manager mistake: the goal of a leader isn't to make your team happy It's to make them feel like the company is winning, and that they're contributing to that. Happiness usually follows, but is not the goal in and of itself.

Purely “revenue” or “impact” oriented product management has zero passion for making great things. Your product will always be boring, and your customers will never love what you’ve built

I’m done designing vanilla user interfaces. They’re a solved problem. Easy. Give me SwiftUI Metal shaders, 3D spaces, and mix-blend-mode textures with lighting effects

The concept of having people at your company who are very competent and have 0 fear of being fired is extremely underrated. There’s a reason they can get so much more done than those who are optimizing for optics
Vic 🌮@VicVijayakumar

Every company needs 2-3 senior+ engineers who have fuck you money or just have 0 fear of getting fired. Then when the architect or tech fellow or whoever unveil their new plan, those engineers unmute to say wtf is this, we're not moving everything into Lambda, are you high???

Most product managers are painfully mid. The only PMs who break out exhibit at least one of the following: - Design ability - Coding skills - Deep GTM execution skills - 99th percentile taste Otherwise, they’re destined for a career of filling out Google Docs
