Ethiopia 🇪🇹 If most of African countries did what Ethiopia did, African lives would change rapidly The Italian company, Webuild, that was contracted by Ethiopia to construct Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam at a cost of $5 billion didn't just build the dam. Webuild constructed roads, two major bridges, fully equipped hospital that will provide free health care, sport facilities, water treatment plant and an entire village that will accommodate 20,000 people in Benishangul-Gumuz. However, the most fascinating part isn't even the above. Webuild trained 25,000 Ethiopians during the construction on operation, maintenance and repairs of the dam. Those are 25,000 jobs created by a single project making it the second in the continent after Dangote refinery which employs 135,000. GERD is expected to generate $1 billion per annum through power sales and tourism. Ethiopia just hit 3 birds with one stone. Infrastructure, employment and revenues.

South Africa 🇿🇦 exported R10.1 billion ($590 million) in defence equipment and munitions, nearly three times the R3.6 billion ($210 million) exported the previous year. The National Conventional Arms Control Committee approved 582 permits to 42 countries. Munitions accounted for R4.8 billion, including a R3.3 billion order from Germany. Other buyers were Turkey, Kenya, France, and the UAE. Europe took 42% of exports, the Middle East 23%, Africa 20%, Asia-Pacific 12%, and the Americas 3%. Deliveries included over 130 armoured vehicles, two naval vessels to Tanzania, and aircraft to Iraq, DRC, and Mozambique. South Africa has Africa’s largest defence industry and ranks among the world’s top 20 arms exporters.

South Africa🇿🇦 generated $550 million from defence exports in 2025, selling weapons, ammunition, and military equipment to 42 countries, including France🇫🇷, Turkey🇹🇷, and the UAE🇦🇪. The largest export share went to Europe, with munitions making up the bulk of the transactions—Germany🇩🇪 was the top buyer, ordering around $180 million worth of shells. Armoured vehicles and aircraft were exported widely within Africa, with Kenya🇰🇪, Ghana🇬🇭, and Malawi🇲🇼 among the major vehicle buyers, while aircraft were sold to Iraq🇮🇶, DRC🇨🇩, Mozambique🇲🇿, and the UAE🇦🇪. South Africa is nearly unique in Africa as a significant arms exporter, while most other African countries remain major importers of weaponry, mainly from Europe🇪🇺, China🇨🇳, Russia🇷🇺, and the United States🇺🇸.
