During the last few days of my internship this semester at the @NobleMaritime I worked on transcribing decades-old oral history tapes. It takes a good ear, but I think I'm getting the hang of it!

I learned at the @NobleMaritime that, as legend has it, Alexander Hamilton played a big role in the founding of Snug Harbor, as he was the lawyer of, and made the will for, founder Robert Richard Randall.

A painting at the @NobleMaritime of the pilot boat "New Jersey," which was around for only a dozen years in the early 20th Century. It sunk in 1914, but the crew was rescued.

Last week at the @NobleMaritime I looked through an old photo album -- from 1921 -- many copies of which were given to employees at Sailors' Snug Harbor at the time. This is one picture from the album, of the governor.

For my family history archive project for @SIPublicHistory I organized pictures by decade, in folders of pre-1910, 1910, 1920, 1930, and 1940. It's fascinating to have it divided this way and to see "what people were doing" at a given time in history!

Thinking about the appraisal process for my #familyhistory archive collection for @SIPublicHistory. I had wanted to organize my collection by decade. Arp's appraisal questions inspired a more specific factor that I will now use: if knowing the date brings value to the record(s).

This is very relevant to our class this week since one of Arp's elements of a collections policy is the method of historical record acquisition. @SIPublicHistory
