@ncstatestats It’s strange because even 2021 and 2024 didn’t have as good offensive team stats as this group does. Yes, they may have played slightly better comp to this point but not significantly. Killshot rate definitely points to reliance on big innings.

State is still at nearly 2 home runs per game but it feels shaky. Yesterday was Nixon’s 2nd. It’s boom or bust: 4 other regulars have hit 1 while the other four have 5+. Just went 14 innings without an extra base hit.

I have no clue what to make of any of the bats right now but I’m in on what Ty Head is doing. Slashing 300/500/780; 178 wRC+ and .536 wOBA while a .195 BABIP is dragging him down. 26% BBs, 4% Ks and 55% fly balls are improved from last year when they were good to begin with

@ncstatestats I’m concerned Ryan’s bat won’t be enough to make up for the defensive inconsistency we’ve seen. He deserves the long leash with his profile, but I’m also high on Serrano and been impressed with what I’ve seen so far.

@ncstatestats Honestly the hit rate on the under the radar 3 stars is probably higher as of late. This is probably the lowest risk method of doing things, with a heavy emphasis on portal. Does limit the upside.

As a proponent of the importance of stars in recruiting, it stings to not land a four-star in this class. At the same time, look at the recent output from the best recruits State has landed… I don’t blame them for not wanting to pay up for those guys

The other team shoots like that, you tip your hat and move on defensively. Offense needs to keep you attached and they didn’t, that was terrible shot selection and shot-making. 8/15 layups 13 midrange attempts 5 threes attempted 8% TOs but only 1.05 PPP, awful

@ncstatestats The way people talking you would think we were 300th in allowed offensive rebounding. We’re close to 3% better than wades teams have ever been at LSU or McNeese.

State's four factors on the defensive side in each of the four games so far.

@ncstatestats Torvik has us at 18th offensively and Miya has 25th defensively. Worst case has us mid thirties offensively and 68 defense. Ceiling going to be determined by the defense it seems.

Kenpom has State 38th and 4th in the ACC. 34th on offense, 36th on defense. Torvik, Miya and Kenpom all have State in the 25-40 range

Three main position player losses are Sosa, DeCriscio and Hogue. They totaled 6.65 WAR. They’ve more or less been replaced by Bargo, Wiggins and Peifer who totaled 5.97 WAR last year and 13.92 in their career. Easily State’s best portal cycle to this point

Bargo has been a full time player in the SEC for 3 years. Known commodity and consistent with 5.3 career WAR. Power is his calling card with 27 homers and 56 XBH in his career. K rate is high at 26% but you live with it, should be a plug and play middle of the order bat

@ncstatestats Think those 4 led the team in exit velo too. Any guys for in the past for state have a big jump in flyball%?

Offensive needs: 1) add a lower level portal bat to mash at DH 2) Nixon and Head to run. 20 combined steals needs to triple 3) Lanphere, McHugh, Novy, Fraasman combined for 22 HRs and had the 4 highest GB% on the team. Those 4 specifically need to elevate the ball
