Aaannnndddd we're done. Conclusion: "Don't like Rochester. Don't know what she sees in him." The Bertha thing came out of nowhere, they resolved it too quickly and brutally. Why is Jane fine with shacking up with him after??? Bertha needed more of a character. "It feels weird".

Tonight I have the exciting opportunity of watching 'Jane Eyre' with someone who has never read the book, knows next to nothing about the plot, and is terrible at spotting tropes/narrative formulas. I am very much looking forward to watching their rollercoaster of reactions.

Theory update after Rochester beckons Jane to follow him after the scream: He's going to be creepy, or "he's going to be like, here are are the remains of my mother, Jane. Or something spooky like that". Rather like Angus's version of 'Jane Eyre', tbh.

Update on Angus's 'Jane Eyre' theories: Rochester is suicidal and the fire was his own fault. No one else has a motive for fire, so if it wasn't him then it was an accident.

Twitter friends…question. I’ve just seen the cover art for a new collection I’m editing on Faith and the Zombie…a serious book about zombies, post-humanism and the many kinds of ‘faith’ involved within that. But I really don’t think the cover reflects that…am I overreacting?

Now I work with Caribbean Gothic Narratives. Foundational aspect of my work is the same, but I am working with a different body of texts.

@RachelHYAu If the program is not a good fit (for whatever reason!) don't waste your time & money on it. Take a year (or 2) off, work at anything. Research other programs. Visit the campuses & people there. Talk to Grad students to get the real scoop on the department/program environment.

What should you think about if you really want to quit grad school? Also can you start over your phd somewhere else? Asking for a friend/myself.
