#OnThisDay 24 October 1656 James Nayler re-enacted Christ's entry into Jerusalem at Bristol, with his followers singing hosannas & casting garments before him. The Quaker movement disassociated themselves with Nayler, who was arrested and tried for blasphemy. #17thCentury #OTD

You're looking at the first photo of the Earth from space. It was taken by a camera mounted on a captured German V2 rocket launched by the U.S. military on this day in 1946.

We’d like to congratulate the Icknield Way Association and Friends of the Ridgeway on the successful launch of the new very old #GreatChalkWay that links the Jurassic Coast in Dorset with the Wash in Norfolk. It’ll be a memorable route!

I'm delighted to learn from @YalePevsner that the glass I photographed in the stairway of the Quayside @premierinn Newcastle, back in July, is by the great Caroline Townshend, 1908. Two of them, the arms of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and Northumberland. (I had the Northumberland Pevsner with me at the time, but didn't look them up, tsk.)

The Dover Pharos in Kent is the most complete standing Roman building in England. Built in the early 2nd century AD, it is also one of only three lighthouses to survive from the whole of the former Roman empire. Is it the oldest building in England? ➡️ bit.ly/TheOldestBuild…
