MAGA is consistently mad that Libertarians understand the Constitution better than anyone.

Here is what ranked choice voting actually does. You rank candidates in order of preference. First choice, second choice, third choice. As many or as few as you want. If your first choice gets the most votes outright, they win. Done. Same as any other election. If no candidate clears a threshold, the candidate with the fewest votes is eliminated. Anyone who ranked that candidate first has their vote move to whoever they ranked second. This repeats until someone wins. Your vote keeps working as long as you keep ranking. The moment you stop ranking you have made a choice. That choice is: if everyone I ranked is eliminated, I don't have a preference between whoever is left. That is not a system failure. That is voter intent. The ballot exhausts because you told it to. The exhausted ballot critique argues this manufactures a false majority because the final winner doesn't have 50% of all ballots cast. That's true mathematically. It ignores what exhausted ballots actually mean. A voter who ranked one candidate and stopped is saying: this is my person. If they're out, I'm out. That is a complete expression of preference. Forcing them to rank further doesn't produce a more legitimate outcome. It produces a coerced one. Plurality voting doesn't solve this either. In a plurality race that same voter still only picks one candidate. RCV at least gave them the option to rank further. They chose not to. That is their right. The argument that Alaskans can't figure out how to rank candidates is the same argument used to justify making it harder to register to vote. Alaskans navigate bush planes, subsistence seasons, and bureaucracies that would break most people. They can rank a list. @Will_W_Welker, the complexity argument was never about voters. It was always about limiting their options.

RCV in the general reduces the spoiler effect and lets voters rank a Libertarian without wasting their vote. The Top 4 primary is a separate question. You cannot measure whether third parties make it through the Top 4 when there are not enough third party candidates running to test it. The data is not there yet.

@AlaskaLP The fact that Libertarians don’t make the General Election ballot anymore because it is a Top 4 system. How exactly does RCV help 3rd parties or libertarians?
