Syria: Western Syria Development Organization Warns of Dangerous Escalation Against Christian Communities The Western Syria Development Organization issued a statement on March 27, 2026, condemning a series of coordinated attacks targeting Christian communities across multiple Syrian provinces, calling them a direct threat to social cohesion and the historic Christian presence in Syria. The organization confirmed that groups from Qalaat al-Madiq carried out an organized attack on Suqaylabiyah under the cover of General Security forces, targeting homes, places of worship, and commercial properties. Widespread looting, theft of vehicles, and destruction of public infrastructure were also documented. The organization described the attack as an existential threat to the Christian community, warning of forced displacement under armed pressure. The statement also reported simultaneous Salafist demonstrations across Damascus, Homs, Hama, Idlib, Daraa, and Deir ez-Zor, organized under the banner of an "anti-normalization campaign." The organization documented the display of ISIS flags in public squares alongside General Security forces, the raising of takfiri and incitement banners, and the escalation of hate speech on social media as a tool for sectarian mobilization. The organization called on the international community and human rights organizations to intervene immediately to protect civilians and prevent the region from sliding into sectarian conflict.
