@kapitonov_ivan @ZeeContrarian1 It doesn't. Because of the build in premium. Unless is a big spike. $vix future is like a call option. It crashes if vix goes down. It goes down if vix stays flat, vix goes up it goes up less than vix.

@ZeeContrarian1 Thank you for this. Question: if you see $VIX as attractive, why there is no edge in underlying byproducts? Aren’t they tracking spot? And if they are, any movement in spot would translate to movement in them.
English

$VIX is trading at a yearly low. Is it time to buy?
Let’s Analyze
Spot $VIX = 14.2 → very attractive.
But you can’t buy spot $VIX, it’s not tradable.
What can you actually buy?
•$VIX Sep future: 17.2. Tradable, yes, but far above spot. Spot would need a big spike before this even reacts.
•$VIX Oct future: 19.2. Even less attractive right now.
•$VIX Sep 20 calls: $0.90 but they only work if spot absolutely explodes higher.
So while spot $VIX looks tempting, the trade setup isn’t.
As I’ve explained before, a contrarian asks 4 questions:
1. Is there an opportunity? ✅
2. Is the crowd leaning the same way? ✅
3. Is the crowd too optimistic? ✅
4. Is there an attractive way
to make money from it? ❌
Answer: Not yet.
For newbies: $VXX, $UVXY, and $UVIX are just byproducts of $VIX futures. If there’s no edge in $VIX futures, there’s no edge here either. In fact, these products are designed to decay over time, they eventually trend toward 0. You should never buy them.
