To the citizens of Red Deer and Central Alberta; I can assure you that we are working collaboratively with the City Of Red Deer Emergency Services leadership team to find a positive outcome during the EHS contract discussions. The Red Deer Firefighters have been delivering industry leading Emergency Medical Services to the citizens of Red Deer and Central Alberta since 1962! It is our intention to keep that high level of service going. Stayed tuned in the coming days and weeks to see how you can assist us in maintaining the delivery of EMS to the citizens to whom we serve. IAFF Local 1190  President  Brad Readman

The APFFPA believes in democracy. The GOA’s use of the notwithstanding clause is authoritarian in principle and undermined open debate.   When debate is curtailed, Albertans lose their voice.   To show commitment to democracy, we call on the GOA to stop using the clause.

Last week, the GOA used Section 33 of the Charter to end the teachers’ strike.   To protect the rights of all Albertans, the APFFPA calls on the GOA to end its use of the notwithstanding clause immediately.   When the rights of one are removed, the rights of all are at risk.

It was a pleasure meeting with Matt Jones, CFA and his team to continue discussions on strengthening Alberta’s pre-hospital care system, which in our view must include expanded Fire-Based EMS models.

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to connect with the @AlbertaPFFPA for a thoughtful discussion on the state of emergency medical services in Alberta. Representing more than 4,500 first responders, APFFPA plays a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of Albertans. Thank you for your service and continued commitment to keeping Albertans safe.

Proposed new building codes could allow single stairwell access in high-rise apartment buildings – a change that raises concerns for both resident and firefighter safety. Attached is a fact sheet on single-egress stairways provided by the @IAFFofficial

This morning we join locals from across the country to lobby Members of Parliament on the important issues firefighters are facing on and off the fire ground. Safe staffing, cancer legislation and violence against firefighters are all topics that we will be speaking to.

A big thank you to Ministers @MattJonesYYC and @RicMcIver for meeting with us today! We had a very productive discussion about strategies for reducing and preventing cancer in the fire service, as well as how we can better support firefighters who receive a cancer diagnosis.

Yesterday Members of Parliament unanimously passed Bill C-321. This is an important piece of legislation that addresses violence against first responders, including firefighters and paramedics. Next step is for it to go to Senate where we hope they will move the bill forward.

Firefighters across the province are already gearing up for another busy wildland fire season. As the risk to our communities continues to grow every year, wildfire awareness and prevention becomes more and more important. Visit firesmartalberta.ca to see how you can help.
