Tonight, we reached an agreement with the Department of War to deploy our models in their classified network. In all of our interactions, the DoW displayed a deep respect for safety and a desire to partner to achieve the best possible outcome. AI safety and wide distribution of benefits are the core of our mission. Two of our most important safety principles are prohibitions on domestic mass surveillance and human responsibility for the use of force, including for autonomous weapon systems. The DoW agrees with these principles, reflects them in law and policy, and we put them into our agreement. We also will build technical safeguards to ensure our models behave as they should, which the DoW also wanted. We will deploy FDEs to help with our models and to ensure their safety, we will deploy on cloud networks only. We are asking the DoW to offer these same terms to all AI companies, which in our opinion we think everyone should be willing to accept. We have expressed our strong desire to see things de-escalate away from legal and governmental actions and towards reasonable agreements. We remain committed to serve all of humanity as best we can. The world is a complicated, messy, and sometimes dangerous place.

"Clearly good enough" is a bad definition to select a player in FIDE Candidates. Unless we return to wild card system in Candidates (not under my watch!), it can't work. "He doesn't really have time for" is more alarming tho. Really? We are talking about qualification to the most important tournament in two years. How come a top pro, who is supposed to qualify by rating that proves he is still a very top pro, does not have time? It is wrong on so many levels. The requirements were actually very modest - and in a hindsight too modest, easy to game. Our fault. But to call a requirement to actually play chess "wild" is wild. Going forwards, I'll submit a proposal, eliminating rating spot altogether towards Candidates-2028. Wolrd Cup, Grand Swiss, FIDE Circuit, and now Total World Championship Tour will be the paths to qualify.
ChessBase India@ChessbaseIndia

This is what @MagnusCarlsen had to say about @GMHikaru and his race towards qualifying for the FIDE Candidates Tournament 2026 in the press conference for the Freestyle Chess Grand Slam Tour Finals at Capetown, South Africa. Here's the full quote: "The fact that Nakamura is going around playing these, as he calls it himself, referring to something I said many years ago, Mickey Mouse tournaments in order to qualify for the candidates, in order to play the 40 games that are required by FIDE. I think that's absolutely- it's wild. It's insane, why would you require somebody who's very clearly good enough to play in the candidates, why would you require him to play these tournaments which he doesn't really have time for? Well, you want to have the best players in the candidates and he's clearly one of them." #chess #chessbaseindia #magnuscarlsen #hikarunakamura #freestylechess #candidates

The International Chess Federation (FIDE) has formally submitted a complaint to the FIDE Ethics & Disciplinary Commission (EDC) naming former World Champion Vladimir Kramnik as the respondent. The referral follows concern in the chess community about repeated public allegations made by Kramnik against GM Daniel Naroditsky and GM David Navara, and comes after a review of the matter by the FIDE Management Board. @EmilSutovsky @FIDE_chess Great drama in Goa, real chess theatre…. Now answer this: what about justice for Daniel Naroditsky? Will you act like leaders or keep being lukewarm and weak? Silence looks cowardly

Real Götterdämmerung in Goa. I can't recall anything similar - with so many of rating favorites leaving the FIDE World Cup at such an early stage. Curiously, this Götterdämmerung largely caused by German players. A very talented cohort, known as Prinzen, advances powerfully - tho it is just the third round, and it's a bit too early to draw conclusions. But one conclusion is surely there - time and again we see 2550+ players fighting on par with the very top. That is why events like FIDE Grand Swiss and World Cup are so important. So many deserving players get their chance there. Tomorrow the tie-breaks! Live from Goa at @fide

@FIDE_chess @EmilSutovsky @FIDE_chess Nice roundup, but posting highlights while a player’s life is in question looks tone-deaf. Will FIDE use its authority to demand answers about Daniel Naroditsky, or is this just PR theater?

@FIDE_chess @EmilSutovsky Nice Marketing! Now, are you going to do something related to Daniel Naroditsky? Or do you just have power when it comes to fighting over the use of the title "World Champion"? Is a man's life so unimportant to you? Lukewarm?

Introducing: The ICARUS Project ♟️ ✨ The ICARUS Project — which ran from November 2023 to October 2025 — has come to a close after two years of using chess as a transformative tool for emotional growth, rehabilitation, and reintegration within prisons across Europe. ▫️ Designed to build soft skills such as emotional control, decision-making, and teamwork, ICARUS developed a comprehensive Toolkit of chess-based educational activities. These sessions helped inmates reflect on their choices, understand their emotions, and strengthen relationships with others — both on and off the board. ▫️ With partners from Italy, Spain, Latvia, and beyond, the project combined expertise from education, psychology, and chess instruction to create innovative and inclusive learning materials. These resources — now freely available online — continue to support educators and prison staff in using chess as a pathway to personal development and social reintegration. 🌟 As part of FIDE’s Social Chess Year, we congratulate the ICARUS Project for showing how every move can lead to awareness, growth, and change — proving once again that chess can transform lives. 🌍 #FIDEsocialchess #EveryMoveMatters #SCY2025 #ChessForFreedom @FIDESocialChess

Denle tiempo.

@EmilSutovsky Incredible event, no doubt, but still not a good qualifier for Candidates. That spot should be reserved for bests, and the proof is Gukesh, the actual WC, didn’t even make top 20. A great tournament doesn’t automatically deserve a direct Candidates ticket.

When we started FIDE Grand Swiss in 2019, there were so many "how comes" - and the biggest one was "how come a non-top player can qualify just playing one good event"? It came from everywhere. It is so pleasing and refreshing to see the attitude changed, and people do feel Blübaum deserved it. Because it is what sport is about. In general it feels that public's perception and engagement with the Grand Swiss kept growing with every edition, but this one felt special. We will keep delivering, going from strength to strength. And now, I just want to thank all the participants - for you it is time to rest, whilst FIDE team moves to Goa later this week to help the preparations for the World Cup. See you soon!
