Keir Starmer’s calls with Donald Trump are mocked in the launch of Saturday Night Live UK. What do you think, any good?

I used to visit homes where people had rent arrears of over £4,000. Funny enough, nails were always done- full set, designer clothes and bags, everyone had a tv iPhone/ iPad etc And guess what - the council would often clear their rent arrears multiple times with huge lump sum payments - Discretionary housing payments, so many would rack up huge arrears again - all of our taxes down the toilet. Ps some people are in real need and try their best and I’m happy they get help but many have no regard for taxes and are more than happy to abuse the help.

@linmeitalks Spot on Benefits used to be there to give you a lifeline. Now it appears benefits are giving people a “normal life”. God I remember the arguments from 30 years ago, “people on benefits have big tvs and SKY”, gone way past that now!

OTD in 1989: USS Tennessee (SSBN-734) conducted the first submerged test launch of a Trident II (D5) missile, which failed about 4 seconds into flight. After modifications, Tennessee conducted the first successful submerged test launch on August 2, 1989 & there have been 197 successful Trident II launches since.

Shotout to people who got a fixed rate mortgage at 5% or less before the Iran War. ITV reporting rates could be at 7% by Summer if the conflict isn't resolved. Is anyone still on a tracker?

So the Starmer bashing continues. Laura Kuenssberg writes and Chanel4 makes a documentary both about how unpopular Sir Keir is. They really are afraid because actually he is popular with most thinking people. #standwithKeir #TenYearKeir

@slam8000 @linmeitalks I'm sorry, if you are on benefits and in rent arrears, you should not be spending money on oversized TV's. As a taxpayer, I don't want my money spent on that.

@AlbionCatA @linmeitalks You can buy a large TV for less than £250. Given in most household it will be used daily as the main source of entertainment then, no, that's not a luxury.

@BasilTheGreat When there was just four channels, many many people would tune in. These days there is huge variety, why would anyone watch the traditional channels.

@linmeitalks Sounds like less ‘housing visit’ and more ‘judge people for how they look.’ Councils don’t just wipe arrears phones and nails aren’t evidence of fraud.

Heinz soups are a rip off. Their oxtail soup is very orange. Because it contains mostly carrot. Their chicken soup has no pieces of chicken in. It's just watery slush. Aldi's oxtail soup is a third of the price and is brown and their chicken soup has small bits of chicken in. Ditch the big names people.

Activist: "The water usage for beef is obscene. Thousands of litres per kilogram." Farmer: "That's rainfall." Activist: "What?" Farmer: "The figure includes all the rain that falls on the pasture. The cows drink from the stream. The rain falls whether there's a cow here or not." Activist: "It's still water consumption." Farmer: "Should I stop the rain falling on my field?" Activist: "Grow crops instead. More efficient." Farmer: "This is a 35-degree slope in the Welsh hills. Show me the crop." Activist: "Technology..." Farmer: "To make tractors climb mountains?" Activist: "There must be a solution." Farmer: "There is. It's called a cow." Activist: [checks phone]

@ajcdeane Where has the money ACTUALLY gone? What is the breakdown in costs? This is why infrastructure just doesn’t work in this country. How does a civil engineering consultancy cost so much?

We have spent £180m on plans for a tunnel under Stonehenge. The project is now scrapped. You can be for a tunnel & think spending is a good idea (even if you think the cost of planning is silly). You can be against a tunnel & think spending is a bad idea. But *nobody* can be for spending on this scale with zero result. And yet that is a peculiarly British outcome. Nobody will be reprimanded. Nobody will see their career affected. But that’s £180m of taxpayer money just wazzed up the wall. Totally without repercussions. Multiply this by airport expansions & train route plans and Thames crossings and power stations and other examples you can think of yourself, and… soon you’re talking serious money.

@DVATW If the tax element makes no difference to the end consumer, as Maliband claims, why not tax at 100% or even higher? Because the government knows those costs will be passed on to the consumer! It’s obvious!
