Most people want our kids to be free from pressures to drink. We can put higher standards on alcohol that will help protect our kids from harm.

Most of the harm from alcohol is to people other than the drinker. E.g. road deaths, FASD, child maltreatment, family violence. But when we understand all the harms (including cancer), and how our environments are saturated in alcohol – we can better protect the people we love.

Changes include a proposal to allow hairdressers and barbers to serve alcohol without a license which will further normalise alcohol as part of everyday life and give us unlicenced bars inside barbers. NZ-ers want more protections against alcohol harm, not fewer.

Yet almost 80% had industry designed messaging on them. Big Alcohol have already spent over 20 years fighting this pregnancy warning label. They have financial incentives to continue to sidestep the label or make it less effective.
