Anuncio público: No soy de la FSSPX. Nunca he asistido a una de sus capillas, nunca he participado en una Misa celebrada por sus sacerdotes y no conozco en persona a nadie de la Fraternidad. Pertenezco a la Diócesis de San Agustín. Hice mi Primera Comunión y mi Confirmación en la parroquia católica más antigua de los Estados Unidos. Habiendo dicho esto, es necesario hablar del elefante en la habitación. Antes de hablar del estatus canónico de la FSSPX, de las excomuniones, de la desobediencia o de cualquier otra controversia que ellos puedan presentar, hay que reconocer que muchas de las preocupaciones que ellos plantean son reales y merecen ser discutidas. Indiferencia religiosa, banalización de la Misa, abusos litúrgicos, ecumenismo estéril, progresismo, pérdida del sentido de lo sagrado, crisis de las vocaciones, deficiente formación catequética y falta de disciplina eclesiástica son problemas evidentes que afectan hoy a la Iglesia. El que se atreva a negarlo es un ingenuo. El escaso accionar de muchos miembros de la alta curia genera un malestar totalmente comprensible entre numerosos fieles, porque la percepción es que estos problemas no se afrontan con la decisión necesaria ni se discuten con la claridad que merecen. Negar ese descontento es simplemente ignorar una realidad. ¿Por qué siento cierta simpatía por la FSSPX? Porque, con todos sus errores y pese a la rigidez que puedan mostrar en algunos aspectos, han procurado conservar prácticas y enseñanzas que consideran parte de la Sagrada Tradición recibida de la Iglesia. Hago enfasis en la palabra SAGRADA. Responder únicamente: "Tienen que adherirse al Papa, son unos desobedientes" es evadir el argumento central: que la Sagrada Tradición Apostólica no puede ser derogada ni reinterpretada mediante declaraciones pastorales ambiguas. ¿Necesitan estar en plena comunión con Roma? Por supuesto. Toda critura debe estar en plena unidad con la Iglesia Católica porque es la única fundada por Cristo. Pero dos cosas pueden ser ciertas al mismo tiempo: la FSSPX debe regularizar su situación canónica y, al mismo tiempo, la Iglesia necesita afrontar y resolver los problemas internos y evidentes que tantos fieles denuncian desde hace décadas sin ser escuchados, corregir aquello que deba ser corregido y sancionando a quienes traicionan la fe y la misión de la Iglesia desde adentro, ocupando puestos importantes en la Curia Romana.
