85 years ago Charlie Chaplin made the greatest speech of the century (playing a mock version of Hitler). We'd be wise to heed his words TODAY as they are incredibly appropriate now, just as they were in 1940. Don't bow down to dictators. _Fight_. (©️"The Great Dictator", 1940)

BREAKING: The White House is out with a new National Policy framework for AI. The proposal says: "States should not be permitted to regulate AI development." It also says that states shouldn't be able to penalize AI companies when people break the law with their models.

This administration still finds way to shock. Trump's buddy was in a custody battle with his ex-girlfriend. So he called a top ICE official and asked she be detained. The ICE official calls the Miami office to pick the woman up from jail, telling them that "the case was important to someone close to the White House." She was deported. These people simply see government as a vehicle for advancing their own personal interests. There's no shame about it. nytimes.com/2026/03/20/us/…

🇺🇦❗️“I have no idea what the allies have been looking at for four years while we have been at war,” — Ukrainian military instructors who went to help counter Iranian missiles and UAVs are shocked by the way the US shoots down “Shaheds,” writes The Times – First, the Persian Gulf countries launched as many as 8 Patriot missiles at one (!) enemy target, each costing more than $3 million. – They often used a ship-based SM-6 missile, worth about $6 million, to shoot down a “Shahed” worth $70,000. – The US and its allies often literally “shine” their radars like beacons — without proper camouflage. Ukrainians work differently: mobile radars constantly change positions. For example: just three (!) cheap Shahed drones destroyed the AN/FPS-132 early warning radar (~$1 billion) and another air defense radar (~$300 million), which had been standing in one place for months and were perfectly “readable” from satellites.

Trump promised a cap on credit card rates. Instead, he delivered a giveaway to credit card companies at your expense. Former CFPB Director Rohit Chopra (@ChopraUSA) explains.

There are also NoKings protests on March 28th. The smartest people I know, concerned with the most dangerous tech, should be promoting this event, too. And joining it. Not pretending like this is of someone else's concern. He is the biggest threat today. Exacerbating all threats.

Holy shit.. Trump just opened up the Russian war machine to cash flows from the US. Putin's puppet state of Belarus, a nation with a GDP the size of Vermont will now be a conduit for Russia to/from the US. Trump is Putin's whore.

🚨 Speaking to an AI system about AI practices does NOT help to hold AI companies accountable. What the AI system says is NOT legally actionable and only serves to increase AI hype, idealization, and anthropomorphism. Sen. Sanders' enthusiasm is simply boosting Anthropic.
Sen. Bernie Sanders@SenSanders

I spoke to Anthropic’s AI agent Claude about AI collecting massive amounts of personal data and how that information is being used to violate our privacy rights. What an AI agent says about the dangers of AI is shocking and should wake us up.

@Noahpinion @connoraxiotes Superhuman AI "superintelligence" is not like today's AI, insamuch as a shotgun is not a planetzise nuclear bomb. The shotgun's blast direction is alignable. The nuke's blast direction is not alignable. Everyone dies, by_default. IT MUST NEVER BE MADE.

I'm actually very bullish about most AI being well-aligned. And I think that aligned AI will allow us to stop rogue AI from taking over the world. But all it takes is one lucky powerful misaligned AI agent to release a doomsday virus...
roon@tszzl

modern alignment methods seem to work reasonably well across orders of magnitude of model scaling, survived the transition to verifiable rewards and that should at least inform your decision making

I grew up thinking if the genie said I could wish for anything, I'd wish for world peace and free the genie. The only people actually wishing for more wishes are the dictators tricking people into letting them stay in power, and the mega-grifters who keep "promising" - for endless investments and subsidies.

Tulsi Gabbard: Russia has maintained the upper hand in the war against Ukraine. Until an agreement is made, Moscow is likely to continue fighting a slow war of attrition until they view their objectives have been achieved.

I made a mistake in engaging with Dugin last night. To try to win arguments about the stupidity of Russia's war, I made claims that I no longer believe. Deleting those tweets. Here's what I wrote in 2023 that I still believe. "Russian soldiers – not Putin – are raping women and girls inside Ukraine. Russian officials – not just Putin alone – are helping kidnap Ukrainian children. And again, although opinion polls in autocracies are highly flawed, Russia’s most independent and professional polling organization, the Levada Center, has revealed consistently that most Russians feel pride in what their army is doing in Ukraine. Only a very small percentage of people are embarrassed by the army’s actions." michaelmcfaul.substack.com/p/are-all-russ…

@allTheYud Don’t understand this analogy but also you should never try to enter direct negotiations with Hitler! If Hitler acts like he might be open to listening to you, he’s not. He’s manipulating you.

The AI companies don't have the power to give you what you want. They can't stop the slide into ASI. They can't prevent human extinction. Only treaties can do that. They'd like you to believe they're big important Hitler, but they're just concentration camp guards.
Holly ⏸️ Elmore@ilex_ulmus

We’re not in a conversation with the AI companies. They are not listening to you, and they definitely aren’t listening to you if you fall for their trap of trying to impress them with gentlemanly debate on their terms. They will respond to demands from the public and laws.
