This game is exactly why I’ll always back Flick’s football, even the high line. We’re watching arguably the two best teams in Europe, and both are pressing high, holding a high line, and refusing to drop deep for most of the game. That’s how top-level football is meant to be played. The difference isn’t the system, it’s the quality. They have the pace, the physicality, and the profiles to execute it at the highest level. We don’t, at least not consistently. So the issue isn’t Flick’s ideas, it’s whether the squad is equipped to carry them out. Give him the right profiles, and you’ll see exactly what this system is capable of.
