@nvansistine Yup. Deep-voiced diva here. In high school my voice was deeper than boys I knew. Have been playing “the mom” ever since. Would love to play a high school girl with a lower register with my natural voice

Age is NOT pitch.
Every actor with a lower range is VERY tired because we keep hearing this from fans and casting. I've been told out right that acting isn't what keeps many of us from booking these roles, it's bias.
Call it style or preference, but it certainly isn't reality.

To #anitwt specifically: Not all teenagers are sopranos or tenors. I knew high schoolers whose voices sounded lower than our teachers. They were usually cast as middle aged adults in theatre. Never their own age. A deep voice and old age should have no correlation.

@DawnMBennettVA I’ve had “DJ Voice” since I was 13. I learned to imitate my mom’s vocal patterns and have had a lower pitch deeper than some of the boys at school at that age.

Adding that when I taught, only Jaws and The Exorcist won Best Sound (Jaws also took Dramatic Score) and Aliens had won Best Sound Design.
I think that while visuals give us the visceral horror, it’s the sound that tells us we’re not paying attention.
