@hollystokes94 @DamesOfDrones @EstebanNicole @j_laloe @MortimerJeanne @Marine_Science @ChagosTrust @ESAEcosphere @MarineSwansea @ZoologySwansea @SwanseaPostgrad Such a great use of drones, satellite tracking and mark recapture methods to accurately assess numbers of a critically endangered species. An insight into the possibilities across many taxa. Great work Holly.

✨ New paper! ✨
The first of my PhD!
Find out how we combined mark-recapture, #drone surveys, and sat tracking to estimate the population of foraging turtles in a shallow lagoon in the Indian Ocean 🛰️🌊 doi.org/10.1002/ecs2.4… #WomeninDronesWednesday #IWD2023

New paper alert! Migrations to remote banks present major challenges for migrating hawksbill turtles. Over short beeline distances (<178km), 22 turtles migrated much longer distances (2-7x), correcting courses in open ocean & slowing down in shallow water doi.org/10.1098/rsif.2…

Fantastic talk by @rees_carina at #ists40 about optimising use of drone imagery to identify hawksbills vs green turtles in Chagos Archipelago using 122 survey transects in lagoon and reef habitats on 2 islands - successful MRes completed @SwanseaUni

@abcnews It's not a Roman shop.
Some of the artefacts date from the middle ages. Every school kid knows that the Roman Empire was long gone by then. This is more likely a ship containing plunder or payment for trade.

You still think this is about health? This is about passports & control. Governments are using the opportunity to implement passports & QR systems to limit your access, restrict your movement and seize your money (CBDC), i.e. to destroy freedom. #bitcoin is part of the solution.

Panel B is the overlap of home ranges of 17 juvenile turtles in the lagoon at Diego Garcia. I wouldn't be swimming around too much if I was shark food either. Read more here esajournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/ea…

Observations of a key predator of green turtles, the tiger shark, are very rare in Chagos Archipelago. So the report of this juvenile in shallow waters of Peros Banhos lagoon is super special. Thanks to Mattie Russell. @Marine_Science

I can't wait to present our work on sea turtle conservation using free and open source software to my people at @foss4g. With #OpenData made easy @MovebankTeam. Check out this open source animation of green turtles migrating up to 5000km from our study site in Diego Garcia.
