It’s important to remember that Marathon was quite literally built and paid for by Destiny player money. Bungie took Destiny players money, and instead of using it to make Destiny better, they pissed it away in a desperate cash cow attempt to break into the looter shooter genre.

The voice director for Marathon, Elias Toufexis, spoke out about the backlash from Destiny 2 fans. Many players are upset that Bungie is shifting resources away from Destiny 2 to focus on Marathon He understands the frustration and noted that fans really loved the game before Bungie put it “on hold” to work on Marathon. Toufexis says it’s totally fine to criticize the game or his work, saying “Critique the game? Critique my work? Totally acceptable.” But he questions why some people are actively rooting for Marathon to fail. Instead, he tells unhappy fans to simply “speak with your wallet” and not buy the game. Done.

Many Bungie devs reportedly had no idea Destiny 2 was about to stop receiving future updates. According to several reports, many employees were still actively working on new content when the announcement was made public, and most of the studio learned of it at the same time as players.
The reports claim Bungie leadership had already decided internally to end active development earlier this year, while some teams continued building future Destiny 2 content.
Bungie confirmed that Destiny 2 will remain online and playable after its final major update in June 2026, but new live-service development for the game is ending after almost 10 years.
They will focus in Marathon, a game that lost almost all its players and is now even more hated by Bungie fans. The game has its days counted.

@XxODDJOBxX @DreamReality It's not blind hate man. They pulled people off of Destiny and put them to work on Marathon. People who likely got a job at Bungie to work on Destiny. And they made them make a game for people who didn't want that game at all, but a better PvP in Destiny itself.

@soapyphile Agreed, it's why I completely lost interest in the genre. Old horrors still hold up to this day, they make you feel uneasy. Modern horrors are just jumpscares with loud noises and sometimes flashy images.

@XxODDJOBxX @DreamReality It's still an ugly game with PvP as it's priority, it doesn't have raids, it doesn't have dungeons and a campaign. It doesn't have cool ass elemental abilities from space, or memorable characters. The PvE will be half assed because it's a PvP game.

@tunechistark Oh gosh you're right...I never compared her to Boruto because I refused to watch that show for long enough due to how insufferable he was. But yes, Korra and Boruto are both so insufferable and cocky.
