It is best not to rear a lion in the city. But if one is reared, the city must submit to its ways. Callicles and Glaucon.

@beck2dalecky @athenaeumbc It takes a lot of skill, philosophical and psychological experience to tackle a Dostoevsky. You need to also be familiar with addictive behavior (a major theme in all of Dostoevsky). You just can't disrepect Dostoevsky like that, coming unprepared. You need serious bagage.
English
@AlexToropoc @athenaeumbc Masters a skill? Being a dick on Twitter? You’re so impressive!
English

@beck2dalecky @athenaeumbc 'Pontificating' is what a low status immature man calls someone who masters a skill. Be better than this.
English
@AlexToropoc @athenaeumbc I’ve never read Twilight. I do enjoy classics and think more people should as well. Pontificating on Twitter about how nobody will understand them unless they read all of this other stuff (which was just self aggrandizing) is obnoxious.
English

@beck2dalecky @athenaeumbc Dostoevsky is not the Twilight novlels, not for everybody. You either try to understand him by putting a lot of effort into it, or go and read childish fantasies, Tolkien or something.
English
@AlexToropoc @athenaeumbc Why don’t you just let people read it without being so elitist about it
English

@HomerPavlos Damn yes. I would go and raze Troy to the ground for a Helen like that.
English

@DirkTheDaring76 @athenaeumbc Dostoevsky follows a philosophical model of Christianity - Raskolnikov is saved from death and guilt by Porfiry/Socrates and has its redemption through Sonya/Jesus. It's more of a Platonist Christianity than the teaching of the Bible.
English

@AlexToropoc @athenaeumbc You not including The Bible is quite the blindspot here...
English

@Pastpassport @athenaeumbc Enjoynment is pleasure, thus superficial. Understanding requires pain, only through pain and suffering can one acquire wisdom. This is the whole point of Homer's Odyssey for example.
English

@AlexToropoc @athenaeumbc I enjoyed it. But I guess i didn't begin to understand it.

@NicholasChacon9 @baranaingo_lond @Gerdundula1 @Panagiotou90St Martel beat the Muslims from a single battle and never had to deal with them again. But Romania was pressured by a new kind of Muslim Imperialism - Turk- a more warlike and formidable enemy Martel never had. And that for a thousand years.
English

@AlexToropoc @baranaingo_lond @Gerdundula1 @Panagiotou90St I am not commenting on French politics though. Others might, but while Ill offer opinions on other countries politics I try to draw a line getting too involved. So I abstain lol
yes I agree about Romania they held off the Ottomans it defined them. France had Charles Martel tho
English

🇫🇷France has always been a predominantly white country and its official religion has been Christianity since 496 AD. Modern anti-clerical elements haven't erased that legacy.
The rhetorical transition from 'your country's culture is bad because it is white and Christian' to 'your country wasn't white and Christian' is transparent and really tiresome at this point. It is used by oikophobes against almost every European country.

🔴🇫🇷 𝗙𝗟𝗔𝗦𝗛 𝗜𝗡𝗙𝗢 — Mathilde Panot déclare que la France blanche et chrétienne n’a jamais existé.
English

@Gerdundula1 @NicholasChacon9 @baranaingo_lond @Panagiotou90St I can give you a crash course in French elightgenment if you want. It sees the French citizen as a world citizen, an universal citizen above petty squabbles like race, class and religion. Being FRENCH means to be something like a perfect man, virtuous, a source of pride.
English

@AlexToropoc @NicholasChacon9 @baranaingo_lond @Panagiotou90St Ludicrous circular argument. You cannot define French as people who are French...what is this "Frenchness"? I'll tell you...it's rooted in history, culture, language, shared customs...and not simply living there or getting a French passport when you get off the boat.
English

@NicholasChacon9 @baranaingo_lond @Gerdundula1 @Panagiotou90St 'Was'. People like Zemmour tries to bring her back. He has 5 percent in polls, the French are rejecting him as the fraud he is. Romania for example is built around Christian and white identity due to external pressures, Muslim, Russian, Mongol, pressures France never had.
English

@AlexToropoc @baranaingo_lond @Gerdundula1 @Panagiotou90St I understand the point you are making about the modern French state but that doesnt change was France was.
I know it is, it seems like a cool place with a cool history. Byzantium is sometimes referred sometimes as Romania. Land of the Roman's. Just wondering.
English

@Gerdundula1 @baranaingo_lond @Panagiotou90St We had a thing called ''impalling'' for all the traitors conspiring with the enemy. People only respect power and fear, which is a Thucydidean philosophy (since the OP is Greek, we must stay Greeks), and this feminization of the western man through empathy is indeed a problem.
English

@AlexToropoc @baranaingo_lond @Panagiotou90St We could but the suicidal empathy of the liberal mind has emasculated the West from forcibly stopping them. I suspect the Romanians fighting the Muslim hordes didn't suffer the same delusions the modern Left suffers from.
English

@NicholasChacon9 @baranaingo_lond @Gerdundula1 @Panagiotou90St Romania the country of Lord Dracula. My point is that the French identity is built around being FRENCH, They reject all race and religious labels. A French is FRENCH, describing him otherwise is Russian disinformation.
English

@AlexToropoc @baranaingo_lond @Gerdundula1 @Panagiotou90St By Romania do you mean Byzantium or actual Romania. If you mean the former yes.
But you can't claim France was historically white and Catholics. Even if we accept the Revolution as a break, it doesnt change the makeup of the nation. Plus the Chuch was brought back in. Big issue.
English

@baranaingo_lond @Gerdundula1 @Panagiotou90St What a loser. We in Romania fought the Muslim hordes for a thousand years, protecting the whole of the west. You can't even hold your own against those poor bastards arriving on boats.
English

@AlexToropoc @Gerdundula1 @Panagiotou90St No French seems himself as White? Of course, Third Worlders like you always lie. Without lies you Islamism-adjacents are nothing
English

@Gerdundula1 @Panagiotou90St No French sees himself ''christian'' not even white. They take pride in being FRENCH. Try to live there for a while. What you speak of is a far/right/Russian manipulation of the public opinion though traitors as Zemmour. Even LePen supports a secular France.
English

@AlexToropoc @Panagiotou90St None of which has anything to do with France being historically an ethnic white country and culturally christian until very, very recently.
English

@Panagiotou90St In 1789 happened a complete erasion of the past during the French rev. And you as a Greek should know this better. The same thing happened with Thucydides' Athens, after the Persians burned Athens, a new Athens was born, a daring warlike Athens that changed the whole world.
English

@AlexToropoc Centuries of cultural developments within a nation don’t get erased just because a nation enters a secular phase and those who usher it in make pronouncements about the state’s new ideals.
English

@HomerPavlos Bigger population doesn't mean intelligence, virtue, power. Ancient Athens in 490BC, population around 100K fielded a 9000 men army and completely wiped out the superpower of that time, Persia, population tens of milion. Quality matters, lions, not millions of sheep.
English

There was a demographic problem 2,200 years ago, and Polybius wrote exactly what caused it. Read carefully:
"In our times, Greece as a whole is experiencing a lack of children and, more generally, a decrease in population. Because of this, cities have become deserted and there is a lack of productivity, even though we do not suffer from constant wars or epidemics. So if someone advised that we send priests to the gods to ask them what we should say or do to become more numerous and better inhabit our cities, he would not seem foolish, since the cause is obvious and the solution lies in our own hands.
People have turned to arrogance, greed, and laziness, and they neither want to marry, nor, if they do marry, to raise their children. Instead, they have only one or two children with difficulty, just to leave them wealth and raise them in luxury.
This evil grew rapidly, and we did not notice. For when there are only one or two children, and one is lost to war and the other to illness, it is obvious that the cities will inevitably become deserted, just as a beehive weakens little by little, so too do cities that lack population become unable to survive."
Source: Histories, Polybius, 36 (ΛΣΤ)
The similarities after 2,200 years.
People prefer partying, doing drugs, and living for today rather than having a purpose, building a family, and leaving a positive footprint in this world. They choose the easy life. At this point, it’s a form of natural selection between those who are worthy and those who are not to continue.

@SoulCultivated I thought you were German? The American-Bolshevik alliance caused half of Europe to be enslaved to the savage Mongol Bolsheviks, especially Germany. They raped and murdered half of Europe with American trucks, boots and weapons.
English

@bachelorsshow @HomerPavlos It affected the whole area - there is archeological evidence for a big earthquake in that time frame (1200's BC). The Greek camp was on the ships, they were unaffected.
English

@AlexToropoc @HomerPavlos That be one strange earthquake and it didn't touch the rest of Troy, nor affected the Greek camp?
English

Poetry is beautiful, but war is brutal. Homer does not mention the sack of Troy. According to Apollodorus, both Achilles and Paris were already dead. Odysseus proposed building a wooden horse and gave the task to the architect Epeios. Using timber from Mount Ida, Epeios constructed a hollow horse with a side opening. Odysseus persuaded the bravest Greeks, fifty men, or three thousand according to the Little Iliad, to hide inside. The rest burned their camp at night, sailed to Tenedos, and waited offshore.
The Greeks placed Odysseus in command inside the horse and inscribed it: "For our safe return home, a thank-offering to Athene from the Greeks." They left Sinon behind to signal them and departed.
At dawn, the Trojans found the Greek camp abandoned and, believing the enemy had fled, joyfully dragged the horse into the city beside Priam’s palace. Despite warnings from Cassandra and Laocoon that armed men were inside, most Trojans decided to spare it as a sacred offering to the gods.
At night, while the Trojans slept, the Greek fleet returned from Tenedos. Sinon lit a beacon on Achilles’ grave.
Helen circled the wooden horse, imitating the voices of the warriors’ wives trying to expose them; Odysseus silenced Anticlos when he nearly replied.
Once the city was quiet, the Greeks emerged from the horse. They opened the gates, letting in the rest of the army. They swept through the city, killing the sleeping Trojans.
Neoptolemus (son of Achilles and later ancestor of Alexander's the Great through his mother Olympias) killed Priam at Zeus’s altar. Odysseus and Menelaus spared Glaucus, son of Antenor. Aeneas escaped with his father Anchises, allowed to pass because of his piety.
Menelaus killed Deiphobus and reclaimed Helen. Demophon and Acamas rescued Aithra, mother of Theseus.
Locrian Aias (Ajax) raped Cassandra as she clung to Athene’s statue.
After slaughtering the Trojans, the Greeks burned the city, divided the spoils, sacrificed to the gods, Neoptolemus threw the infant Astyanax (son of Hector) from the walls, and sacrificed Polyxena on Achilles’ grave.
As a special honour, Agamemnon received Cassandra, Neoptolemos received Andromache, and Odysseus Hecuba.
Poems are nice, but war is brutal.
