Also, for bottom up obstruction to occur, light has to be refracted up, but the atmosphere refracts it down.

As for the big dipper, no you can’t see it all year round from the north or the south.

@AlexV960 @BrockRiddickIFB I can see the Saucepan and the Southern Cross from Australia all year round, certainly positions are lower and higher depending on time of year but I see them both 365 days on clear nights.
