**LONG POST ALERT** It's hard to know where to begin, but in the news business we're taught not to bury the lede. The Hughes family is moving to Chicago! I am joining @ABC7Chicago as a weekend anchor and weekday reporter. Professionally, I’ve enjoyed the last three years in Atlanta more than any in my career. I love my team in Atlanta and it's tough to say goodbye. Personally, Atlanta is where the Hughes fam really got its start, and our first memories were made. What an adventure this career has been, and since the beginning I’ve had the support of my parents, my brother and my wife, Jodi. Many of you know we met at Purdue. Jodi encouraged me to chase my dreams, and when I told her that meant moving to Topeka, Kansas for my first job she didn’t waver. She was happy for me, even though it meant putting our relationship to the test. When I made it back to West Lafayette, she joined me back in our college town so we could be together again. We got married, moved to Charlotte, had our daughter Emerson, moved to Atlanta and had our son Graham a week after moving into our new home. Seven years ago, we moved away from the Midwest to chase my ambitions, but as my career has grown, so has Jodi’s. She’s been the most loving, selfless mom and wife all while building a career and changing people’s lives through diabetes care. She never put the pressure on to move home. She never resented me for how much harder it is to raise kids away from family and friends. We make a hell of a team. For that reason, first and foremost, we are beyond excited to move our team home to Chicago. Secondly, opportunities at ABC 7 do not grow on trees. I watched ABC 7 every time we visited Chicago over the last 13 years. It is a model of journalism and local television news. I consider it the accomplishment of my career to this point to earn the chance to be a journalist at a Chicago institution. ABC 7 felt like home the second I walked through the doors for my interview, and I can’t wait to get started. Thirdly, we wouldn’t be in this position without a lot of help along the way. @ACwishtv gave me my first break, helped me create my first resume reel, and got on the phone to Topeka to convince KSNT to give me my first job. @AlexWiebel taught me what to do and how to do it, day in and day out. It required a lot of patience! Jeff Smith brought me back to Indiana and gave me the freedom to cover sports in Greater Lafayette as I saw fit. Matt King hired me in Charlotte and shortly thereafter moved me from sports to news. It was a difficult, emotional hurdle to clear. My dream was always to be a sportscaster. In a way I was giving up on the dream, but in hindsight my dreams and interests were changing. Matt and Deborah Collura saw a path for me in news and brought me from Charlotte to Atlanta to continue that path. After a seven-year tour of the South, the road leads home to Chicago. Chicago captured my imagination from the first time I visited on a 5th grade field trip to the Museum of Science and Industry. I consider it one of the great cities in the world. It will be an honor to serve the people there and officially be a Chicagoan. Writing this post had me rifling through the hundreds and hundreds of relationships forged in previously unknown cities and states. To every co-worker, teammate, boss, viewer, friendly face, interviewee who ever gave me the time of day or lent their support, guidance or advice - thank you. It feels like it’s already been a long career but, in reality, we’re just getting started. Thank you, Atlanta. Chicago, see you soon.

Has there ever been a college football powerhouse (national championship good) whose most explosive weapon was a tight end? Brock Bowers is an animal.

You might not know much about the Montana-Montana State rivalry that dates back to 1897 and has been christened the “Brawl of the Wild.” But for Montanans, it’s a declaration of identity.
