It’s really annoying that Denver is doing what they are doing to play hard ball to keep Peyton Watson.
It’s looking like Clippers are less likely to get Peyton now. They might have to shift focus elsewhere. And lock in Mathurin.

The Bucks could emerge as a potential landing spot for Cam Johnson if the Nuggets move the veteran forward this offseason. Milwaukee has a surplus of guards, while Denver lacks backcourt depth and may prefer to cut costs, especially if the team re-signs Peyton Watson.

Peyton Watson would be a perfect fit on the Bucks.
Watson fits the timeline, would become the starting small forward, and could receive a lucrative long-term deal in Milwaukee. Bucks GM Jon Horst also has a strong business relationship with Klutch Sports Group, Watson’s agency.

They don’t want him to sign the QO. They also don’t want to pay him 25-30M per year.
RFA is fucked but it is what it is. The Nuggets still want a happy player. Forcing him into the QO ensures he doesn’t buy into the team and direction, torches every relationship with Paul, and ensures he’s gone after 1 year.
There is zero incentive to get him to sign it.
Again they don’t want to pay him 25-30M either, but that’s where we are at. They are trying to find something that works.

No matter what, Denver has to agree to terms with a sign-and-trade. They have to like the deal.
However, the closer this gets to a qualifying offer, the more everyone is likely to sweat. I think it hurts the Nuggets more to go to the qualifying offer deadline on Watson than it does Watson or other potential suitors.
