It’s not about junior vs senior, it’s about “good with AI” vs “not good with AI.”

The last major competitive grab in pro baseball player development is still out there. Staff recruitment and retention are success multipliers. Sell out to find the best and keep the best. It’s the only robustly researched area of influence that gets treated like pseudoscience.

"What's really stood out is the quality of people that we have already working here, and how much good work is being done." Alex Ross, our Head of Athletic Performance & Sports Science, talks us through his two key areas for player development and how his time in baseball and 7s has shaped him. #AsOne

Training isn't about mimicking the sport. It's preparing for the demands! If mimicking was the key, we'd just run time trials and specific intervals every day. We don't. Yet, too often in team sports especially, training devolves into mimicking the sport.

One of the more humbling lessons I’ve learned in business is that decisions that don’t make sense in the moment but compound in a way I didn’t predict are often because the person making the decision is playing a different game over a longer time horizon that I didn’t spot or understand. Common error, and you see it everywhere. If an otherwise rational actor makes a decision that seems counter to incentives or principle, perhaps I am misunderstanding the principle or unaware that the game has suddenly shifted.

Change doesn't happen through company-wide emails. It happens when middle managers and supervisors understand the change, believe in it, and can explain why it matters to their teams and follow up consistently. Supervisors are the key infrastructure for change initiatives.
