The company I work for is letting me run an experimental team where we mob. At first there was great apprehension from the members, so much so that one of them quit on the first day before we even started coding. Everyone else who stuck around loves it. They feel supported and excited. They're eager to solve problems together and learn from each other. They're overcoming challenges faster than when they try doing it alone. I literally have to force them to take their breaks because they're having fun, engaged, and don't want to leave. They have each expressed that after just one week they've gotten more done than they have ever gotten done in one week before. Next week I hope to bring on another developer to replace the one that left. They know this person will be effective on day 1 and able to contribute, whereas if we implemented "Scatter Gather" (@tottinge) they likely wouldn't contribute in any meaningful way for several weeks. I am so thankful my company let me run this experiment. It's not every day a company is willing to try something so different.
