I once asked this in an AWS cloud engineer interview.
If I assign a /24 CIDR to a VPC, how many usable IPs are there?
The candidate confidently replied: 256 IPs.
Before getting into whether it was the right or wrong answer,
I see many cloud practitioners, especially beginners, find it hard to choose the right subnet size.
I made this visual to help you understand. Check it out !
A /24 provides 256 IPs – right.
But AWS reserves 5 IPs per subnet.
These include: network address, broadcast, router, DNS, and one more for future use.
So, /24 gives you only 251 usable IPs, not 256.
Plan usable IPs, not theoretical ones.

🇵🇹 PORTUGAL: COMMIT A SERIOUS CRIME, LOSE YOUR CITIZENSHIP
With 157 votes in favor, Portugal’s parliament just passed a law allowing judges to strip citizenship from criminals sentenced to 4+ years in prison.
The bill, backed by the center-right, liberals, and the conservatives CHEGA party, targets dual nationals who commit serious crimes within 10 years of becoming Portuguese.
No, it won’t leave anyone stateless… but it will leave them passport-less.
Break the law, pack your bags, just not with a Portuguese flag on them.

🇵🇹 PORTUGAL APPROVES BURQA BAN: FINES UP TO 4,000 EUROS! Portugal’s parliament just greenlit a ban on face coverings in public, citing “security” and “women’s rights". The conservative Chega party led the charge, backed by the center right, while the socialista voted no. Fines? Up to €4,000 for covering your fase, while forcing someone to wear one could land you in prison for 3 years. Now the bill heads to the constitutional affairs committee, where, according to PSD (center-right party), it “can and should be improved.” Source: The Guardian
