Napoleon fought in over 60 major battles in his lifetime, winning around 80% of them. For perspective, Alexander the Great fought in 9 major battles and Julius Caesar fought around 15-20. #napoleon #goat

@RevRichardColes Well, what could be better? Søren Kierkegaard studied in Newcastle University’s philosophy department, with modules like Existentialism and the Self. Additionally, Newcastle University's student journal, ‘Kierkegaard in Process’, is dedicated to his work.

@Road_2_Ft_Worth Tariffs are a regressive tax, hurting ordinary Americans - a dagger to the finances of the working-classes and middle-class but merely a pinprick for the rich. Then again, Congress could always take back the power of tariffs from the White House. Oh wait, it’s full of rich folks.

Trump is a proponent of tariffs, insisting that they are paid for by foreign countries. In fact, it is importers — American companies — that pay tariffs, and the money goes to the U.S. Treasury. Those companies typically pass their higher costs on to their customers in the form of higher prices. That’s why economists say consumers usually end up footing the bill for tariffs. Via Fortune
American Veteran@amvetsupport

Ok to be clear. Especially for brainless MAGAs. We have not made money off of tariffs. He continues the lie that other countries are paying. If that is true why do we need to give consumers rebates. TARIFFS ARE A CONSUMER TAX. It is a tax paid by you. He has lied about this since day one

@afneil The policy of Ceaușescu is responsible for the proliferation of ownerless dogs in Bucharest. People forced out of their homes to accommodate his megalomaniacal building spree couldn’t support a pet as well so the dogs went free. I’ve seen whole packs loitering on street corners.

Wow :(( Medical science has advanced so rapidly in the last several years especially in the fields of immunotherapy and radiology, and now some of that research that benefits all mankind comes to a screeching halt. When the current administration finds out about this fish, it will label it transgender and have it eliminated. Spine-cheeked anemonefish in Milne Bay, Papua New Guinea That bright fish hiding in the anemone? That's the spine-cheeked anemonefish, or the maroon clownfish, and it is not just a cute creature. Native to the Indo-Pacific, from western Indonesia to Taiwan and the Great Barrier Reef, this species lives on the edges of coral reefs. It is easily distinguished by the spine extending from each cheek—hence the name. Groups of spine-cheeked anemonefish form around a single dominant female, and if she disappears, the top male steps up—literally changing sex to take her place.

@Road_2_Ft_Worth Funny you mention Oberon now as that’s the name of the meteorite alien life-form in the apocalyptic computer game Atomfall, in an alternate universe where British nuclear powerplant Windscale was built over it as a cover for experimentation. Last few days I’ve got into this game.

Valentine Walter Bromley’s Oberon and Titania is a visual interpretation of a pivotal moment from A Midsummer Night’s Dream, where Oberon enchants Titania with a love potion, setting the stage for her infatuation with Bottom—transformed into a donkey-headed figure. The painting captures the tension between power and vulnerability, illusion and desire, and the ethereal beauty of the fairy realm. via copilot

Ukraine has never asked America to send in the 82nd airborne; they’ve asked for the weapons to defend their homeland and people from Russia attacks. Letting Russia win this war would be a unmitigated disaster for the American people and our security around the world.

@mwgbanks1 @mikepompeo No-one in America complained about the big bucks funnelled to the Afghan resistance to the Soviet invasion during the 1980s. Because it was in the USA’s wider interests to weaken a competitor. Only an isolationist ostrich fails to see that Ukraine is in the USA’s wider interests.

@mikepompeo What happens in Ukraine is irrelevant to most most ordinary Americans; apart from the fact that Ukraine is costing them big $. "Unmitigated disaster for the American people"? No. It's likely just am embarrassment for those leaders who advocated taking on the Russian Federation.

@RupertMyers Though the recruiter sounds like a bit of a dick. Had a friend who moved to Dubai but after seven years he came back to the UK because though well-paid, there were very few eligible women there. Nick’s going to find that out too. My friend has a family now, settled in the UK.

@davidfrum You’re taking great pains to paint Mamdani as Jeremy Corbyn but he’s more like Ken Livingstone, who as ‘Red Ken’ ran the Greater London Council in the 1980s and returned to run London as mayor for eight years from the year 2000. Compare apples with apples and cities with cities.

@Road_2_Ft_Worth I’m like this, except I take it a step further - it’s wrinkled on the bed but I don’t care as I’m sleeping, unconscious to it’s alleged slovenliness, not wearing it out on the town (can you imagine the looks if I did and not because it was wrinkled).

Someone showed me how to fold a fitted sheet. When I made my bed, it was more wrinkled than the others that I just roll up. Who cares what it looks like in the closet! So we roll through life in a compassionate manner, and the wrinkles begin to smooth out.

Jun 16, 2025 "The painting La casta Susana is a work by Francisco Maura y Montaner, a Spanish painter, created in 1885. This piece is rendered in the academic classical style and is inspired by the narrative from the Book of Daniel (Chapter 13) in the Old Testament. The story depicted revolves around Susanna, the wife of Joakim, who, while bathing in a garden in Babylon, was harassed and pursued by two corrupt elderly judges. These judges propositioned her immorally, but Susanna refused. In retaliation, they accused her of adultery and gave false testimony against her in a public trial. Daniel, a wise young man, intervened with cunning, questioning the judges separately about the location of the alleged crime (one cited an acacia tree and the other an oak), exposing their lies. As a result, Susanna was declared innocent, and the judges were condemned. The painting, adhering to academic conventions, highlights Susanna’s beauty and virtue in contrast to corruption." via letoviah on YouTube.
