@MsAndreaSoto @david_kauffman This. We were diving into our DL Staar data and noticed on the conversion chart that in 4th grade Spanish reading, students had to score 9 more correct answers than English students to pass Staar reading. We haven’t dived into science yet. 😬

@david_kauffman The Raw Scores Conversion Tables show some differences, so that might be a good place to start.

“The 5th grade science STAAR is more difficult in Spanish than in English.” Can someone point me to good research that challenges or supports this statement? I don’t buy it and have solid arguments against it, but I’m looking for solid evidence.

As educators and community stakeholders, we have a tremendous responsibility to our students. We are not just teaching them academic subjects, but we are also shaping their lives and helping them grow into well-rounded individuals. However, we cannot do this effectively if we are carrying our own emotional baggage with us. We all have our own traumas and struggles that we carry with us, but it is important that we take the time to unpack our backpacks before engaging with our students. We cannot expect to be fully present and attentive to their needs if we are weighed down by our own issues. The whole student deserves the whole educator. We must be willing to show up for our students with our hearts and minds fully open. This means taking the time to process our own emotions and experiences so that we can be fully present for our students. Let us remember that our students are not just vessels to be filled with knowledge, but they are whole human beings with their own struggles and traumas. As educators, it is our duty to create a safe and nurturing environment where they can learn and grow. Let us do our part by taking care of ourselves first, so that we can be the best educators and community stakeholders we can be. #DocSpeaks 🎤 #lovelightandinsight @gvsu 🫶🏾
