@JonathanShedler Agree on a lot of these but I think psychoeducation can be really helpful for things like trauma and anxiety/panic. Helps normalise and contextualise. Clients seem really relieved to know what’s happening in body and why. But used sparingly, and no jargon.

What therapists do when they don't actually know how to do psychotherapy -give advice -act like cheerleaders -make mawkish displays of "empathy" -validate & affirm everything -find a worksheet -try to reason with client -"psychoeducate" -follow a manual please add to the list!

Well worth reading this perspective from the artist Adam Doyle aka Spicebag in @IrishTimes "Decades of neglect and negative interactions [with gardaí and the State] have led to a deep mistrust. This is easily co-opted and manipulated by outside forces." irishtimes.com/opinion/2023/1…

@amyohconnor Really seemed unnecessary - not a line that belonged in a factual piece of reporting

@Mairead38333911 @MumblinDeafRo Such well written characters. Feel like I know them. Wasn’t on my radar at all until librarian suggested it as an option to our book club and we all liked the look of it (great cover)

@Alfiechops @MumblinDeafRo Me too. And his second book "Panenka" is equally great. You just walk a mile of each of the character's shoes.

I've never come across persistence like Sky before. I quit their service a few months ago and they've called me three times to try and convince me to come back. Do other companies do this?!

Twitter may soon be paywalled. “We're moving to having a small monthly payment for use of the system," said Elon Musk yesterday in a stage chat with Israeli PM Netanyahu. Would you pay?

Younger viewers have been switching off traditional TV, whole programme genres are up for debate and the public funding saga is approaching its next cliffhanger. Can bumper audiences bring some autumn respite to Irish broadcasters? irishtimes.com/business/2023/…

@Annie_Whitmore I remember having that experience when we lived beside Croke Park and there was one of those games on. No warning for residents, just BOOM! We honestly thought we were about to die!! Your poor mam

@jkconnolly Not quite sure he’s compared like with like there either. Henry St surely a more appropriate comparison with Grafton St (than O’Connell St)

Today I realised the secret to working from home while the kids are off, is to actually give up working and take them to the playground before everyone loses their minds.

@pjgallagher I’d imagine, like most things to go with parenting, people are just projecting stuff from their own experience. That, or just regurgitating lazy cliches to make conversation!
