World-renowned Kuwaiti Qur’an reciter and nasheed artist Mishary Rashid Alafasy has defended himself against mounting criticism over his recently released nasheed titled “Tabbat Yada Iran” (“Perish the hands of Iran”).
In his video statement, he defended his position of cursing Iran and also cursed Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood.
His nasheed references the 111th surah of the Qur’an, Surah Al-Masad, which states: “Tabbat yada abi Lahabin Watab” (“May the hands of Abu Lahab perish”), in reference to one of the greatest enemies of the Prophet Muhammad (saw).
In recent months, Alafasy has become increasingly critical of Iran on his X account, amid Tehran's attacks on Gulf nations for their collaboration with the US and Israel.
