"Education without discipline is meaningless. As our old school ,Kigezi High School marks 100 years, we should continue to combine academic performance with the soft skills of integrity and discipline" Prof Mondo Kagonyera, OB, former Minister and educationist.

#KigeziHSAt100: when I first entered through these gates of @kigezihigh School in March 1991, I had come to ask for a place in senior three, but the headmaster, looking at my school report from Jinja SS, said I could only join the school by repeating senior two, because I was reporting late, students had already chosen subjects for S3, and thay my performance was not good enough.
And even then, I had to first sit interviews to qualify to repeat.
I passed the interview and was admitted to S2C and allocated Bwankosya as my Dormitory.
On the day I reported to school, as I walked through the Quadrangle pitch of the boys dormitories, a tall boy snatched a black kaveera in which I was carrying grab of ekisyanga, obunena and yellow bananas and escaped down the steep slope behind Bitwari House known as Cliff.
When I reported the incident to my cousin,Asiimwe Ivan, in S3 at the time, he asked my to describe the tall boy, and from that he could tell who he was and promised to recover my bunena.
And he did. Ivan was himself a tough and feared buddy.
From that day, I kept introducing myself as Ivan's cousin as a way to scare bullies.
I stayed for one year, and left again, due to failure to pay fees, and joined Lake Bunyonyi Secondary School on Bwama Island, completing my O level from Bufundi College Kacerere, as Lake Bunyonyi did not have a @UNEB_UG Centre Number.
But the one year I was here made so much impact on me, that I only filled one choice for A' Level: to return to Kigezi High School.
With 17 aggregates at the 1993 UNEB UCE Exams, I was readmitted to @kigezihigh, returning to Bwankosya again which I later headed as House Captain.
A combination of great teachers in the Arts Class, like Mzee Kiyundo, Kaakaabaare, Charles Birungi Bitutura, @AsiimweOnesimus, John Birihanze, John Tugumisirize, Peter Tumuhekyi Buhura, solidarity among classmates that enabled us to discuss and share lessons, textbooks, pamphlets and notes, discipline and kind cooks, alongside Diwali and Emizi ya Rwemereza, we completed A level with good grades, 21 points in my case, getting admitted for a Mass Communication Degree @Makerere University in 1996.
We were joining a long list of many other OBs and OGs who had gone ahead of us, joining universities and other higher institutions of learning and playing significant roles in building the nation in many ways.
Kigezi High School made me and so many others. I celebrate its 100 years of existence.
On 30th September, OBs, OGs, friends and wellwishers and those who love education will gather at the school campus in Kabale to hear stories like mine from so many ancestors, young and old speaking about the lives and times at the great School.
We are also mobilising resources to ensure that KHS continues to be a premier school, imparting skills and knowledge to transform and change the world for the better in the next 100 years.
Join us.
