If you’re only consuming U.S. media, you may want to broaden your media diet. To better understand what’s happening in places like the Middle East, it helps to engage with international outlets like @TheEconomist and others outside the U.S. Different sources highlight different realities. If you want a fuller picture, you need more than one perspective.

Great speech. Wrong city. Reza Pahlavi delivered that message in an American city, not in Tehran. The chants weren’t coming from Iranian rebels—they were coming from American supporters.  Sort of raises a real question: How much of this support exists inside Iran—and how much of it exists outside looking in? Personally, I find much of what Pahlavi says compelling. But if you really want to understand the roots of the tension between Iran and the United States, you have to go deeper. You have to study his father, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the last Shah of Iran. He maintained close alignment with the United States, paired rapid modernization with tight centralized power, but growing internal opposition ultimately led to the 1979 revolution. The current reality in Iran didn’t emerge out of nowhere. It was shaped by decades of political decisions, foreign influence, and internal resistance. Oftentimes if you’re going to predict the future—start by understanding the past.

It’s the actual POTUS in an official cabinet meeting essentially doing a three minute commercial for @Sharpie while administration officials just laugh and chuckle. Watching this would make you think we’re not at war, the Middle East isn’t breaking a part, and there are no geopolitical risks to our domestic economy. I’m pretty sure Trump spent more time clearly explaining his reasons for purchasing these pens than he spent on explaining his reasons for attacking Iran. Had enough yet?
