Toxic drug warning: street drugs are unregulated, unpredictable and unsafe. Algoma Public Health is cautioning anyone who uses street drugs to take extra precautions at this time, as there has been an increase in suspected drug-related poisonings in the Algoma region.

Infection Preventionists (IPs) are specialists trained to identify, control, and prevent infections in different environments, such as hospitals, clinics, long-term care homes, schools, and workplaces.

“The prevention of infectious diseases through immunization is a key component of ensuring a safe school environment,” said Dr. Tuinema, AMOH. “High rates of vaccination are imperative for achieving herd immunity & protecting our children from severe diseases."

Parents and guardians receiving this letter and suspension order will have time to arrange a vaccine appointment and report this information to APH in order to avoid a 20-day suspension for their child this spring.

Starting next week, APH will be sending out roughly 4,000 letters and suspension orders to parents and guardians in Algoma. The purpose is to inform them that APH’s immunization record for their child is still not up to date.

In a separate meeting this afternoon, the BOH for PHSD voted in favour of a voluntary merger. Without both Boards of Health agreeing to merge, a voluntary merger between APH and PHSD will not take place. algomapublichealth.com/news/board-of-…

Today, the Board of Health (BOH) for Algoma Public Health (APH) voted on a motion regarding a voluntary merger with Public Health Sudbury & Districts (PHSD). After careful consideration, the APH Board of Health decided not to proceed with a merger.
