O my son. This is you.
When I was young, my parents would show me pictures of the happy memories they had in Palestine before the occupation stole everything from them. They never had pictures of their devastation, just devastating stories.
As the images of Gaza flood our phones, our children are watching too. I caught my son staring at this photo at a Palestine exhibition; and captured this moment from behind. This isn’t a historical image. It’s one from this year. And he could’ve easily been one of those kids. I could’ve easily been one of those people. We are those people. And we have to see the world through their lens in order to truly pull them out of their misery, and ourselves out of our heedlessness.

Farah was the sister of Shaaban who we saw burn alive. She too was in that fire, and I pray that she’s now in that paradise with her brother.
How close does this pain hit home? Her aunt and 7 year old cousin missing a leg were with us last night looking for just one night of respite.
May the martyrs now rest, and may their oppressors never find rest.
