@ttpdoan @fercalamante @IKvalsgard The rest of our pipeline is designed to parcellate the nuclei and sub-regions within those masks based on myelination, fibre direction, and diffusion micro-environment. We would be keen to try using MASSP instead to check if that improves our parcellation further🙂

@ttpdoan @fercalamante @IKvalsgard A direct comparison between these two parcellations is therefore not practical. We used the segmentation by FSL to define the masks for subcortical structures in each subject and then defined the masks in template space based on commonality (common across 75% of the population).

@ttpdoan @fercalamante @IKvalsgard However, the scope and objective of our recent work and SydSGM parcellation is somewhat different, as that aims to parcellate the nuclei and sub-regions within the already defined “full” subcortical structures (caudate, putamen, globus pallidus, nucleus accumbens, and thalamus).

We applied it to Parkinson's disease (using structural connectivity and NBS), and show the extra information it adds to detect network abnormalities when compared with the more standard parcellation.

This article -demonstrated gradual changes in microarchitecture across cortical depth using quantitative MRI metrics -showed reliable and reproducible correlations among the cortical microarchitectural properties and fibre distributional patterns in proximal WM structures
