For the 38 of the 40 years of supporting the sky blues I was by my dad. He didn't quite make this moment to see us back in the prem. JAPANIKI good morning! It's night time here, but earlier today I got married to my wife 😎😎😎. We did a traditional southern wedding outside. We had BBQ after (5lbs of pork and 5lbs of chicken, as well as another southern dish called Sausage Dip, but I dunno if you guys will like that one). Being from the south, we obviously had to have guns! And of course, we had to have peanut cola!

Smoked ham, fried chicken, deviled eggs, crockpot Mac n cheese for wife’s dads 76th birthday! Happy Saturday from South Carolina.

🔥🇺🇸 LET’S GO 🇺🇸🔥 Proud to say I took the win today for Team USA at BBQ Expo Paris. This was no joke of a competition — a true black box showdown. Three award-winning European pitmasters representing Germany, France, and Spain vs Three American pitmasters: Chef David Olson, Chef Eric Gephart, and myself All battling it out for just TWO spots in the BBQ Expo Paris Championship. And today… I advanced. 🙌 My dish: “Parisian Picnic” 🥖 Grilled baguette with herb butter 🥩 Marinated grilled skirt steak with applejack BBQ sauce 🔥 Grilled onions & tomatoes 🥗 Smoke-roasted vegetable salad with asparagus, cucumber, red & yellow peppers, onions, and yellow squash with herb vinaigrette All done @TraegerGrills And I’m still wrapping my head around this… 293 out of 300. Highest score of the entire event. Absolutely honored. Absolutely grateful. And wow… the level of talent here is unreal. Tomorrow, I go head-to-head in the final against Top Chef Jacques Lagarde. The competition has been fierce, the food has been next-level, and Paris… you are bringing it. Let’s see what tomorrow holds. 🔥 This picture wasn’t the final dish, but it was pretty close to being done. I was so busy. I didn’t even have a chance to take a picture of my own food.

Case in point here is Upstate NY. This place should be a paradise. It's superlatively gorgeous -- maybe the most beautiful place east of the Mississippi -- and fertile. The housing's cheap, there are OK jobs, soil's fine, life is easy. But people here are MISERABLE. Daily interactions involve leering, awkward staring, cold shoulders, nervous energy. Loner-hermit types avoid others; elderly are crotchedy and skittish. DinerGoth types are lurking, vaping, being gay, mumbling to themselves in the Stewart's parking lot. No one's stopping to chat, no one's your friend, everyone is kind of tense in public. Guys are shooting up on the street in Watertown, Utica, even Tupper Lake. Any cop will tell you WEIRD, dark stories about what goes on here. The Kulak class is overtaxed; the State Workers dream of Florida once the pension hits. Young guys are all planning to move to South Carolina, Texas. Local government is a good old boys club for the dumbest, most cynical drunkards in each county. The whole vibe is "soviet." Except in lib enclaves, where the vibe is "tense, judgemental, 'in this house we believe', paranoid about MAGA, cloistered." And so this place is cheap, low-rent, undesirable. Gentrifiers try to come but they don't stay here. This place resists any attempt to "reinvigorate" it. The dysgenic darkness hangs over every inch of it; no amount of bright-eyed yuppies can fix it. Albany can't fix it. It's all graft, corruption, awkward stammering parochial nutcases wandering the streets in between disability checks. The residents of so many places here are the genetic remnants of those who didn't have the gumption or the brains to go West when the time came, and it shows. Literally the best move we have is to pay people to LEAVE. If I was the governor I'd allocate massive amounts of money towards this. I'd straight-up pay people to clear out, get out of here, move along. I'd pay their moving expenses, send them to Florida or whatever. And we'd flourish.

I am posting this morning, with an extremely shattered heart. In the wee hours this morning my beautiful boy Casper unexpectedly and suddenly passed away. He has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Life will not be the same. I know there is a special place in Heaven for dogs, and I know Casper will be there to keep the Good Lords seat warm. Just like he did my drivers seat when ever I was out of the truck.

The setting sun has set the horizon ablaze with the gentlest glow. All the stories of today are slowly settling into this orange-red hue. I wish I could tuck this moment into my pocket and savor it slowly

Yesterday was one of the worst days we’ve had, in a very very long time. We had to part ways with our dear Minnow. Way too young, and a victim of Cancer. I’ve said for years, dogs should live for ever. Minnow was my daughter’s dog, one of three dogs in our house, and she had to deal with a terrible decision and reality yesterday. 🙏 😢
