Caught in a poacher’s snare and stabbed with a spear, he was left to die ~ alone, crippled, and in agony. His leg was sliced to the bone, and his skull pierced, but somehow, he held on. Rescuers from the @SheldrickTrust rushed to his aid, freeing him from the trap and flying him to Nairobi National Park for urgent care. There, veterinarians cleaned his wounds, treated infections, and began the long process of healing. Sadly Simotua never recovered fully and died the following year 😢.
