80 years ago, my great-grandmother Lily Ebert was in Auschwitz for Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish new year. Today, at 100, she celebrates with 38 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. After a year of war and rising antisemitism, we hope and pray for a new year of peace.

Ginny is also founding member of a great multidisciplinary NEH-funded team, CODICES, which conducts optical, chemical, and computational analyses of manuscripts and early printed books. Science + Humanities!♥️

The current excavation at Dalheim is essential to extending our understanding of women's religious life in the Middle Ages. As archaeologist Roberta Gilchrist has noted, women's communities have too often been overlooked or undervalued -- by archaeologists AND historians.

#TeamNun on the road in Germany! Just spent a phenomenal few days working at the important new excavation under way at Kloster Dalheim in Westfalen. Great work being done by #LWL- Archaeologie für Westfalen, led by Wolfram Essling-Wintzer and the tireless Peter Hessel.
