As Scotland heads to the polls today, #PE1979 petitioners look forward to working with MSPs across parties and any independents to more speedily progress the calls of our continued petition. Petitioners, survivors and whistleblowers will again highlight the vital need for an independent national whistleblowing office for education and children’s services and independent investigation of allegations relating to the mishandling of child abuse concerns by public bodies. Allegations that cover the length and breadth of Scotland. It is believed that this will best establish the child safeguarding truth, provide greater confidence in the personnel and systems in place, and better keep children in Scotland safe. On Thursday 7 May, the people of Scotland will decide which MSPs will represent them in the Scottish Parliament, and which party will form a new Scottish Government. But how does the voting system work in Scotland? 🟣 Everyone gets two votes 🟣 73 constituency MSPs are chosen by First Past the Post 🟣 56 regional MSPs, representing Scotland’s eight regions, are chosen by the share of the regional vote (Additional Member System) Each constituency has one MSP and seven MSPs are chosen to represent each region It’s REALLY important that you use your vote, so that our elected politicians best reflect the views of the people of Scotland. Watch this video to find out how the system works in more detail👇

Deeply disappointed to hear this week from a CSA CSE survivor that I support as a #PE1979 petitioner that they felt almost dismissed when directly posing a question to one of the panel members. Very much noted by members of the wider audience who approached the survivor afterwards to comment on her bravery and the unacceptable tone of the response that she received. Survivors need to be better heard if we are to deliver justice, establish the child safeguarding truth and better keep our children safe.

Families across Edinburgh and the Lothians who rely on specialist respite services say the closure of either of two NHS-run homes “cannot be allowed to happen”. NHS Lothian runs two respite centres for children and young people with complex needs and disabilities – Sunndach in Livingston and Calareidh in Edinburgh. But the future of both sites is under review, with NHS Lothian saying each has been operating at under 50% capacity for some time. news.stv.tv/east-central/p…

The day is here… have to admit I’m a nervous wreck but looking forward to meeting everyone. Open to all and hope to see some familiar faces.
