@HMRCcustomers I decided not to claim as a business expense. But you seem to think life can be divided into little boxes, and it can't. I think you could make life easier for self-employed people to stay in business so they don't give up working freelance or sign up for unemployment benefit.

@AlisonMLees You shouldn’t claim (or should at least reduce the claim) if you would have gone into town anyway for the shopping and the CPD is just an add on or minor reason. Then the journey isn’t “wholly and exclusively” business anymore. Amandine 2/2

@HMRCcustomers Tax deductible expenses. If I normally work in place A and am going to a 'training' session in place B, can I claim the cost of the bus tickets to get to place B as a business expense? I am self-employed.

@HMRCcustomers @HMRCcustomers Hmm. Suppose you are going to a thing at the library that counts as CPD and then you have been asked to do some shopping in town while you are there?

@AlisonMLees Your bus journey to “place B” is claimable if: The training is relevant to your current business (e.g. improving or updating skills you already use). The journey is only for that business purpose. It’s not just your normal commute. Amandine 1/2

@HMRCgovuk If I work in place A and am going to a 'training' session in place B, can I claim bus tickets to get to place B as a business expense? I am self-employed. I asked your customer support and got a gobbledegook reply.

@HMRCcustomers That does not answer my question? I am asking about tax-deductible business expenses for a sole trader.

@HMRCcustomers And also, you still need to cancel making tax digital for anybody who is not vat-registered. I don't think you have done it yet? Filing taxes should be free at the point of use, and the insistence on third-party software exposes you and the taxpayer to fraud.

@Plusnet Why should I phone? The last time I phoned, I got someone who didn't know anything and wouldn't help. It's quite simple. If you email me, I should be able to email you back.

@Plusnet I've had an email about phone line switch off. The email & your website appear to be claiming that I have to switch to fttp but that's not actually true, is it? I need greater transparency, actual dates & costs, and better customer services. This is most disappointing.

@Plusnet I have new email, says I'm switching to ee in 30 days. I phoned already. I want to remain with plusnet fibre to cabinet but lose the phone line rental, at a reduction in cost. This was not offered anywhere & person I spoke to on the phone before couldn't help. Please fix it.

@Plusnet I can't be bothered to phone up; tired of speaking to idiots on the phone. Also, I will apparently get an email 28 days before they cut the landline so the matter is not so urgent that I have to sort things out today. Feedback: Don't use 'we are urging' or 'as soon as possible'.

Hi Alison, I can understand why you'd be let down by the call and it certainly isn't the high level of service I'd normally expect. Please do give our team another call so everything can be looked into fully regarding any options, as well as any further information needed. You can also raise a complaint with them on the call about the service you've received, and request to take it further if you remain unhappy.

@Plusnet I just phoned one of your other numbers, and the lady who answered was completely useless. Your customer service has gone downhill.

@AlisonMLees Hi Alison, the simplified expenses for use of home just cover running costs, such as heating, lighting and power. You can claim a separate business related proportion of house insurance. Please see: gov.uk/hmrc-internal-… Nancy

@HMRCcustomers Does the flat rate expenses for 'use of home' (self-employed, freelance, or sole trader) cover house insurance (buildings and contents), or should I calculate a suitable proportion of house insurance (building and contents) and add it to my tax deductible expenses?

@HMRCgovuk Is it perhaps becomes some people think they are scams? Is it easy to tell when these letters are genuine? Is it not better to put the money straight onto PAYE codes where possible? Luckily my refund went straight into my bank account, because self-assessment.
