We stand w/ our @NAEYC colleagues & all #ECE. This week, Dr. Barbara Cooper, head of early childhood education in Alabama, was ousted after Gov. Ivey cited “woke concepts” in NAEYC’s Developmentally Appropriate Practice Book that has been used as a resource for pre-K teachers.

The recent 4th edition includes important updates based on current research. If Alabama is serious about being an ECE leader, we need to stop this. For the sake of our state's children and educators, the current edition of DAP needs to be allowed in our classrooms and agencies.

DAP recognizes that children develop in the context of their families and communities, and that educators need to attend to all domains of development, not just academics, to prepare children for school and life.

I was so disheartened and wholly discouraged to learn of Secretary Cooper's forced resignation and Gov. Ivey's banning of the 4th edition of NAEYC's Developmentally Appropriate Practice (DAP). DAP is our field's guiding position statement. al.com/educationlab/2…
