Married women in the Anglosphere were regarded as property and had no independent legal existence outside of their husbands until the late 19th century. Similar laws existed in antiquity (Athens Rome Germania Thrace etc.) and lasted until the 20th century in continental Europe.

Bereaved parents should have no place in the creation and passing of laws. And nor should we give their arguments and pleas any more weight than the arguments or pleas of anyone else. And further we are entitled to ask if their own inadequate parenting contributed to their childโs death. You donโt get to demand legal change of great impact without proper scrutiny of your own actions.
