Twitter is unfortunately not as enjoyable as it once was, so I am migrating to where the skies are blue. Same display name and social media handle, so please find me if you like wildlife photos or want to keep updated on my career path!

I participated in early voting last week! No candidate is perfect, but I voted for the people who are most aligned with my values, and I voted for a future in which women are respected and the environment is valued.

Happy Owl-o-ween! Here's a throwback photograph from 2018, featuring a roosting Mexican Spotted Owl. A spooky fact about Spotted Owls is that they will eat bats and other (smaller) owls. However, their main diet is comprised of woodrats and flying squirrels. #HappyHalloween

Hey #TWS2024 attendees! In 2013, cats were estimated to kill between 100-350 million birds annually in Canada. Has recent work on outdoor cats in the decade since changed this estimate? Come see my talk on Sunday 2 pm in Key 2 to find out! 1/3

Headed to #TWS2024 this weekend and looking forward to seeing folks there! I'm giving a different talk from the one I presented at #AOS24 just a couple of weeks ago. Alas, Baltimore wildlife sightings won't be quite the same as Estes Park, where I saw this female mule deer.

Pygmy Nuthatches don't occur in West Virginia, so it's always a delight to see them! Pygmy Nuthatches are little birds that enjoy hanging out in friendly flocks. This individual was 1 of 5 nuthatches that I saw in Estes Park in Colorado. #TwitterNatureCommunity #BirdsSeenIn2024

Nice look at a hatch-year Black-billed Magpie (evidenced by the pale-colored gape at the corner of its bill) in Estes Park, Colorado. It was quietly but audibly chattering to itself, like a young toddler mimicking the sounds of speech. #BirdsSeenIn2024 #TwitterNatureCommunity

Portrait of a Steller's Jay from early October at the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park, Colorado. Different populations of Steller's Jays vary in their facial patterns --- interior populations boast bold white "eyebrows". #BirdsSeenIn2024 #TwitterNaturePhotography

Autumn in Estes Park, Colorado, is the season of singing elk. Here is just one of my many incredible looks at a male elk during the week-long American Ornithological Society conference (#AOS24) --- this guy was in Rocky Mountain National Park (@RockyNPS). #MammalWatching

Today is #WorldMigratoryBirdDay! This year's theme is "Protect Insects, Protect Birds" to recognize the importance of insects to migratory birds --- such as this Mountain Bluebird, who was hunting grasshoppers in the alpine tundra of Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado.

Last night in Morgantown (West Virginia), I managed to catch a burst of intensity from the northern lights. It didn't last long, but I sure enjoyed the show! #aurora #WildAndWonderful

After finding the White-tailed Ptarmigan in the alpine tundra of Rocky Mountain National Park @RockyNPS, I stopped by the Alpine Visitor Center and got my lifer Brown-capped Rosy-Finches! This species is endemic to Colorado and its surrounding area. #AOS24 #BirdsSeenIn2024

Last week, the American Ornithological Society (@AmOrnith / #AOS24) hosted a conference in Estes Park, CO. Maybe the most popular event for lots of the 1,000 attendees was viewing the White-tailed Ptarmigans in nearby Rocky Mountain National Park (@RockyNPS). #BirdsSeenIn2024

The last of this year’s condor cohort have been released! A8 and A9 took flight the morning of October 4th, 2024. These birds, both 2.5-year-old males, were hatched at Oregon Zoo’s Jonsson Center. There are now 18 condors flying over Yurok territory and the surrounding areas.
