Many of these laws were written for a very different context, and the challenge now is deciding whether they should be updated to address today's realities while still protecting the rights and principles they were originally designed to uphold.

@Deirdre03224751 @Essex_Patriot Whatever people's views on immigration, it's worth remembering that governments are still expected to operate within their own laws and international legal obligations. The debate is really about how to balance effective border control with those legal responsibilities.

@Essex_Patriot Spain have sent most of them back using the Army out in force, plus the Police. No messing about - obviously not bothered about the ECHR or courts!

@Deirdre03224751 It certainly sparked a lot of debate. Countries have the right to enforce their borders and immigration laws, but they also have obligations to treat people humanely. Strong border enforcement and basic humanitarian standards don't have to be mutually exclusive.

Well that is an eye opener isn't it. Spain part of the ECHR having none of it. Army, police out in full force sending migrants back immediately, no arguments. Even taking water away from them ( don't agree with that) but forcing them to go home!
