@RevRachelK The second bit makes sense but is more disturbing than a simple desire for rootedness, as it signals the devastating collapse of empire. The first feels odd because in Canada folks are moving south to find "freedom," perhaps out of a sense that the empire there is less crumbled.

@AllisonRev There is for sure a search for meaning and purpose. As the myth of “America” is dismantled I do think we need to be able to give people new narratives. But it’s also a lot of basic white grievance as folks perceive their privileges disappearing.

@RevRachelK at the risk of sounding totally out of touch (which I am), what is at the base of this alt-right revival? Why here and now? A sense of unrootedness, search for purpose, belonging? Serious question.

My parents are on the verge of losing their 40 yr home because the landlord feels the need to flee the country to escape government/media persecution. This alt-right surge is not feeling like a joke anymore. We need to find better ways to satisfy people's hunger for meaning asap.

@ayyessarr The problem is the doctrine of infalliblity. If the church cannot be wrong, it is difficult to imagine a way forward. I wish this teaching was part of the conversations.

@EllieGSing Love the physical kinds of prayer. Very interested in how to make church a place more welcoming for neurodiverse folks (on both sides of the altar!) I don't think I'm the only one tired of feeling second class for praying differently 😕

I’m a pacifist, but I want to clear that I believe it’s a misapplication of scripture for people in positions of power and privilege to insist that oppressed people must reject violence. That’s actually a form of spiritual abuse. It’s slaveholder religion.
