@emmanuelforbes7 You were the 16th overall pick in the NFL draft & you were cut less than 2 years later. Only get back needed is the first rounder we wasted on you.

@EricSal_7 Stopped reading once I saw “Holland best player in the class” Take away any draft experts credentials that said something as dumb as that.

It’s weird and funny how the narrative shifts. The moment Wemby got drafted, every national talking head and half this app demanded the Spurs trade for “immediate help.” “ Vic is generational, get him help NOW.” Then Castle gets picked at 4, not only after THREE teams passed on him, but also after many voices preferred Dillingham, Matas, Holland, some even Clingan at 4 — and the same time voices wanted him flipped for Dame or Trae. “Experts” were saying Dillingham was the better fit. Even some Spurs fans said Steph was just a 3&D wing who couldn’t shoot and they preferred someone else. Many were even calling Holland the best player in the entire class. Spurs avoided all that noise and drafted Steph. But make no mistake during Castle’s rookie year we also heard it all.. “Trade him for Lauri.” “Trade him for Trae.” “He should be included For Fox.” Now to Dylan — once Dylan was locked in at 2? The noise began again. “Package Castle or Dylan for Giannis.” “Package both for Giannis.” “Trade down to the Nets.” “Trade down to Utah for Lauri.” “He’s not a good fit because hE plAyS tHe SaMe pOsiTiOn aS FoX & StEPh.” “They need a better fit now.” “Just DO something.” It. Never. Stopped. Since the moment Vic was drafted. Now those same voices are calling the Spurs “lucky” to have all three. Lucky. Credit to the front office for not flinching. For not chasing approval. For not buying the lazy take that Castles value would never be higher after winning ROTY. Some Spurs fans even compared him to Michael-Carter Williams. Patience is a skill. Most franchises don’t have it. This one does. Not only that but they picked Steph in a “bad draft with a lot of parity from 1-10” and they also avoided traded him for an old shiny name like Dame or an overrated shiny name like Trae. I can’t tell you how many arguments I’ve had with people the past 2 years on all of these topics with big names on this app and loud voices on Spurs Twitter. Saying they were simply lucky in hindsight is such a lazy way to put it. I understand Sam gave some credit for them being smart, but there’s so many in recent weeks just harping on luck.
Sam Quinn@SamQuinnCBS

Spurs fans are gonna have to make peace with the role the lottery played in all of this if they want to enjoy their next decade of internet existence. They got lucky. Really, historically, annoyingly lucky. They were also VERY smart. But they got lucky. It happened. Own that.

@TroyHalibur Curious Troy, if you were in the GMs seat on draft night who would be your pick? Would you stick and pick? Regardless of AJ / DP. Would you target a trade back at 2 if you know you want DP? What does that price actually look like?

@fuckmoneymir @TheLaDowski It’s not necessarily that there wouldn’t be an offer we’d accept, just more so Ace would be the starting point for most Washington fans which Utah understandably isn’t interested. Lauri just doesn’t make sense for Washington in the sense it costs too much with Trae & AD.

@TheLaDowski @AlmightyRyan10 Only asked cause alotta Washington fans seem like there’s no offer that’d make sense for them, but there definitely is with Peterson at 2nd lol

The Washington Wizards will reportedly consider trading down from the No. 1 pick, per @JakeLFischer “Winger told me directly that the Wizards will at least consider trading down. He insisted that this is ‘not a savior moment’ for Washington given that the franchise just traded for two former All-Stars in Trae Young and Anthony Davis on top of the slew of recent lottery picks it already has accumulated. He added that, in accordance with Wizards general manager Will Dawkins' prospect evaluations, Washington will not rule out a move downward if Dawkins determines there are two or three players that the Wizards are eager to come away with.” (Via open.substack.com/pub/marcstein/…)

@fuckmoneymir Would it probably be considered way too much from Utah? Probably. But that’s the point, we ultimately would never move the pick unless it was some insane offer where we could still get DP/Booz/Wilson.

@fuckmoneymir As a wizards fan The phone call isn’t picked up unless it’s something along the lines of WSH: #1 For UTAH: #2, Ace, future picks. From everything I’ve heard Ace is off the table from Jazz fans (which is understandable) but at that point the call isn’t being picked up.

@OBtoojiveforyou Exactly that. They didn’t care bout us wanting Ace, same should apply with them wanting AJ. Business is business, but screw Ainge lol. If they want AJ you either pay the hefty price or you live with the results of what you did last year. I call that the basketball gods.

@D_whit98 1) Ainge won't get fleeced, he wants to fleece the other team 2) We wanted Ace, Ace wanted DC, Ainge didn't GAF 3) The Wizards have not had a potential top 10 player/face of the franchise/face of the league type since Webber. This franchise needs that more than extra picks

The Wizards could’ve arrived here with Avdija if they didn’t waste 4 years giving touches to Westbrook, Dinwiddie and other mid PGs. They drafted a 6-8 point forward but didn’t give him the ball. Never made sense. The Blazers figured out how to use Deni basically right away.

The Wizards are in the driver’s seat here • Indiana doesn’t care if they finish 1, 2, or 3 • Brooklyn has the easiest remaining SoS Lose their final 8 games and they will finish at least tied for worst record, but likely own it outright, giving them a pick floor of #5 overall
